Lighting in baby's room
I want to put in a new light fixture on the ceiling, but can't decide between a ceiling fan or a chandalier (like the one in the Pottery Barn Kids catalog).
I love the look of a chandalier, but I'm not sure if the ceiling fan will be more functional and give off more light. I think I'm a bit afraid that if the fan is on, it will be too much for the baby. On the other hand, perhaps the fan will be a good idea so the baby doesn't get overheated (risking one of the contributing factors in SIDS). Does anybody have any opinions or thoughts?

I would probably go for the ceiling fan. In the long run, it will probably be more useful. Even if you don't use the fan when the baby is first in the room, you will eventually use it, and you made a good point about it giving off more light. HTH!

We have a ceiling fan in the nursery right now. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the functionality behind them, but I hate the way they look.
I love chandeliers, so my compromise is keeping the fan and installing sconces.

I have a ceiling fan in my daughters room. Last summer we didnt put an A/C in her room, the fan worked great. I felt like an A/C would be too much in her small room so I was glad to have the fan to circulate the air. I got a regular ceiling fan and painted the blades to match her room and it looks adorable.

i feel the same way...
i don't know what we will do with the fan, but we will definitely install an ac unit for the summer in  room and use as needed. until we install central air, i don't see many options  .

This is how I feel too. We have central air for the summer. The baby's room is the smallest room and with the door closed, it gets pretty warm in there in the winter so I'm actually thinking of the fan for the winter (weird, right?).

Attached is a pic of the chandaliers I'm considering.
I have the second one and I love it. It has a cord though so I had the electrician clip it and hang it.

We went with a small lamp on her dresser and a ceiling fan with lights. I wanted the ceiling fan because I wanted a well lit room (if I wasnt using the dresser lamp) and also to keep her cool if it got too warm in her room.
Here's a pic of the one we installed. Its a small fan but her room isnt huge so its the perfect size. I love it. Pic isnt very good but you can see it OK. We bought it ar Lowes. Image Attachment(s):

Ceiling fans are also great to create white noise to help soothe a really fussy infant. And ours was great to distract Sarah during diaper changes when she first started rolling and it got a little more challenging. She would lie still and watch the fan.

We are putting a ceiling fan in for lighting as well. Similar to MrsJ's fan.

fan definitly. babies love to watch it move over head, and the noise is terrific for them. and it keeps them cool as well. heres a pic of mine.
