Pumping to introduce bottle to BF baby?
DS is almost 4 weeks old and I'm thinking about starting to introduce the bottle soon. I just want DH to be able to give him an occassional bottle and for DS to be able to get a bottle if I need to go out without him.
When do you do your pumping for say like 1 bottle a day? Do you have to pump at the time he would normally be nursing? Or can you pump at some other time? I have no idea how to work this!

I only pump, but I know that its best to pump first thing in the morning as thats when your milk supply is the highest. I can pump around 16 oz first thing in the morning, but 5-6 oz the rest of the day.
Hope that helps!!

Re: Pumping to introduce bottle to BF baby?
Try your best to wait till 6 weeks, unless you are going back to work. At that point, you should pump in the morning AFTER you feed the baby. Use a high quality, double electric pump like a Pump in Style ( or PIS Advance). You can pump 15 minutes after you are done nursing. You might not have a lot of milk at first, but after a few days you should see a difference. Also, you can pump after any feeding to get more of a bottle supply.
I never pumped 16oz at once pumping session. So everyone's body is different.
Some things to remember: Don't think that if you don't pump a lot that the baby isn't getting enough. You are pumping AFTER you feed the baby so your milk supply is not used to you needing more than that amount.
Also, your body needs to get used to the pump. A nursing baby can often trigger your milk better than a pump.
If you need any help let me know. Also, www.kellymom.com is a great resource.
