Anyone ever add a Whirlpool tub to their bathroom ???
We are in the process of designing our downstairs bathroom. Gutting it completely out to the studs.
Anyways... my main question is... has anyone ever upgraded from a regular tub to a whirlpool?
Did you have to upgrade the electric in your bathroom to do this?
The spec sheet of the tub i want says "Must be connected to a 15amp, 120V 60HZ, protected by a ground fault interrupter (GFI).
Most tubs I was looking at require 20A... but this one only requires 15A.
My house is on breakers... and I think we either have 100A or 150A (i think 100).

Yes you need a separate amp circuit.
We also had to upgrade (were doing it anyway) to a larger, separate hot water heater.
According to my contractor (he's done so many) most whirlpools take more gallons to fill up than the capacity for the average hot water heater.

I don't have a hot water heater or storage tank in my house. Since I had my pipes and coil cleaned... I get TONS of hot water now (for good durations too).
Would this be an issue?

Ok thanks. Do you think not having a separate hot water heater would be an issue?
My furnace provides all my hot water. And the water gets pretty hot. I have no issues taking 10-20 minute showers now.

I sooo want a whirlpool tub when I redo my bathroom. Don't quote me on this, but I think you might need an upgrade on your electric.

I love love love love my whirlpool tub. It is the most wonderful thing to soak in after a hard days work. A capful of mister bubble, some candles and I feel all the stress just melt away.
I dont have an additional hot water heater for the tub. They did have to do something with the electric when it was installed and they put some type of crawl space thing in my closet so if they need to get to the tub they can access it from the closet.

That crawl space access is very important to get to the "brain" of the tub incase somehting happens...
My sister has one and only used it a couple of times and now it dosnt work and no crawl space so now it is a huge project to go threw the bedroom wall to get access to it.
She complains about it all the time.
She said it is very difficult to clean b/c u can only use certain soaps, and their is a system to clean the jets that you must do even if you dont use them that often, also she she has said that washing the baby it is more difficult than a normal tub b/c the baby ends up sitting more towards the middle of the tub due to the slops on the side of the tub so it is hard to access the baby with the shower doors in place. Sometimes she takes the doors off and washes her and then puts them back on.
Just somethings to think about for the furture.

Thats interesting that you can only use certain soaps because I basically use a capful of clorox, hot water and mr. bubble (something I saw on 'how clean is your house') and I never had any problems. But our tub also isnt made of porceline so maybe thats the difference?? I use my tub at least once a week and the jets are working great. I use a little bit of hot water to clean them. Our whirlpool tub is seperate from our shower. We have a stand up shower and the tub is next to it.
We also have a second bathroom that has a regular tub.
