Building Collapse on the Upper East Side
I don't think they know if it was residential or commercial just yet. It was breaking news on Regis and Kelly. I hope no one was hurt. It's on 62nd between Park and Madison.

The news reported that it was an explosion, and it was a 3 story medical building.

One woman was brought to the hospital. And yes, they keep saying it was residential but they also say it was doc's offices...

i work in the area - there are emergency vehicles everywhere! It was really scary to get off the subway and see all the smoke.

There are a lot of apartment buildings ( especailly on the east side) that have doctor & dentist offices on the first floor--mayeb it was one of those types of buildings.

Ok, so it seems it was a medical building but there was an aparmtent building next door.
ETA- In cas any oens takes the bus over there:
( from the MTA)
"Due to a building collapse on East 62nd Street and Madison Ave, several bus routes have been diverted off Madison Avenue until further notice. The Uptown M1, M2, M3, M4, M30, M66 and M72 are running on 3rd Avenue between 56th Street and 65th Street until further notice."

MY DH went to school right next door to the building. He said when he was in high school (80s) that it was rumored that the Dr. offices that were there were abortion doctors and that the neighborhood didn't like that at all!

The news just said there was at least one fatality 
ETA- Now they changed the story and said there are no fatalities
