Backyard ideas and suggestions?

We just installed a pool and two level deck!
But I have about 1 to 1 1/2 feet of dirt between the end of the deck and the fence that goes around the whole perimeter of my back yard.
I am trying to figure out if I should
1- put pebbles with stepping stones
2- put pebbles with flowers
3- put woodchips with flowers
or
4--looking for any other suggestions or pictures

also if we do put flowers in I would like something that I can plant now and will return summer after summer....any suggestions?

Thank you

Re: Backyard ideas and suggestions?

I would do pebbles and flowers. I wouldn't do wood chips (I think they eventually get moldy Chat Icon )

Rose Bushes, ferns, and other green bushes are great to plant.

Crepe Myrtles are really pretty too. They bloom late June through September and thier trunks are relatively skinny so they don't take up a lot of room.

Hydrangea also come back each year

Would it be appropriate to put a pond there?
