Dell or Gateway?

Right now I have an HP laptop that is nothing but trouble.. and need a new computer asap

I had nothing but trouble with my Dell, constantly replacing parts. It was like they took a bunch of broken parts from other computers and put them into mine to see which would go first.

I have a Toshiba laptop now and have had no problems!

Thank you for that info!!! My DH is really pushing a dell. I've never had anything but Gateway and HP.

We def. want a desktop though.. since technically my laptop "works" I am going to save it as a backup pc.

I know my neighbor has a Gateway and likes it. Its a desktop.

I agree with your DH - I would go with a Dell.

Definitely Dell!
My grandfather had a Gateway and had nothing put problems..And their service is crap....
Same with a friend of mine....they have both had to get rid of the Gateways..

i would go with dell. I am happy with my computer and it works great!

I have a Gateway and my mom has a Dell. Overall I'm a lot happier with the service and quality of the gateway. Dell reminds me of the old propietary computers like packard bell and compaq.

ETA: I had a 3 year service contract with Gateway. I blew out my harddrive a few times. Each time they overnighted me a new harddrive and stayed on the phone with me for hours while I backed up everything, took out the old HD and installed the new, and put all my files back. When I needed to upgrade my RAM, I went to the gateway site, it detected my computer and brought me to a listed of reccomened, suggested and optional upgrades, so I was able to order the right part ofr my computer with one click, basically.

With my Mom's dell it seems to have a lot of annoying proprietary software in it, and calling customer service has never been a pleasant experience. They're famous for having overseas CS agents, and if you can understand them that's half the battle, but the other half is getting one who knows *** they're talking about. it's sad really because the people on the other end of the phone probably have masters degrees in neuroscience or something, but they're not IT people

have had 2 dells and loved them, at my job its all dells too.

Worse part though is their Customer service...its a joke...but in 5 years only had to call once.

my comp at home is dell...as well as all the comp at work... Ive had no problems...

if I had to choose between those two, dell definitely.

I dont think you want a gateway - they have been going through financial problems for a year or so now, and I believe they are in chapter 11. If I was you I would stick with Dell, or get a New Emachine with an AMD processor....They are excellent machines.
