How common is it not to ovulate (skip a cycle)?

I usually feel when I ovulate. This month, however, I didn't feel anything.Chat Icon So, I guess I didn't ovulate.

Is there something wrong? Is it common to skip a cycle? I am not sure if it ever happend before because this months I really paid attention where before I did not.

Should I be worried?

You should not base whether or not you ovulate on a feeling you get or don't get. However, it is completely normal to have annovulatory cycles. Also unfortunately it is very common, to not ovulate at all. If your hormones are out of balance, you can suffer from continous annovulatory cycles.

I have about 2 or 3 annovulatory cycles a year. I know this because I use a CBE fertility monitor to track my status... I decided to use one after I had missed a period or two but wasn't PG. Now it should help when we decide to TTC again.

I only ovulate once a year without medication, based on my normal cycles.

They had to put me on Clomid, but mine's a more extreme case.

Well before I started charting I only got my period 3 to 4 times a year. Of course, that doesn't mean I was ovulating all of those times.

So far for this year (with charting since November) only two clear ovulations. I'll be 35 in less than a month so it's off to the doctor in a few weeks to discuss this. I'll be bringing my charts.Chat Icon

I was doing a lot of research on this... It seems its not really common....

Im now scared that something is truly wrong with me. I do have my periods every month, but of course that doesn't mean that I ovulate. I am 25 now, and am scared the older I get the more problems with this I will have.

Do OB/GYNs test for this?

Sometimes I have months that I feel when I ovulate and other months that I do not. I think it is fairly common that you might or might not feel ovulation pains. I would not worry too much about it. Are you trying? If so I would start using the OPKs and start charting and it will help you determine when you are ovulating.

I am not trying now, which is why I am so nervous. I just started an MBA program and will now work/school for another 3 years. I am worried that if I have problems now, what will happen in 3 years?

But thanks! That made me feel better!

Re: How common is it not to ovulate (skip a cycle)?

i have to disagree with a previous poster. i've been doing a lot of research on this & it's very common for most women to NOT ovulate 1-2 cycles per year. as someone mentioned, it's called an anovulatory cycle. as someone else mentioned, you very well may have ovulated without knowing it. only way to tell is charting or with a OPK. i wouldn't worry.
