When did you start telling people?

I told my immediate family...but when did you all start telling extended family and friends that you were PG? Did you all wait until the 12 week mark?

It's killing me keeping this secret Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: When did you start telling people?

I couldnt and didnt wait ....everyone knew about our struggles to TTC so when I got the official word from my RE that I was PG, we told our families first and then all of our friends. Chat Icon

Re: When did you start telling people?

With Sarah we told immediate family as soon as the doctor confirmed the pregnancy, friends at 12 weeks and then I told my office around 15 weeks. I think DH told his office around then too.

This time I told my mom right away, but the rest of the immediate family at about 11 weeks, after we'd had a sonogram. Same with friends. DH told his office around 4 months. I felt very differently this time and was worried, so I didn't want to tell most of the family, as I'd have to go through every symptom every day and hear their advice/opinions, which I just couldn't handle.

Friends after I went to my first OB appointment. I told work at 10 weeks.
We figured the more people praying the better. Plus, if anything did go wrong we would have the support of family and friends. That's just how we looked at it. I know some wait until after the first trimester, its a personal decision.

Re: When did you start telling people?

We told our parents right away and told them we wanted to wait until after our 1st sonogram to make sure all was ok.

MIL started telling before thatChat Icon .

We told everyone somewhere between 7 and 8 weeks. I used to be one of those who swore that I would wait until 12 weeks, but we were so excited and wanted those close to us to know what was going on...

I told work at 9 weeks.

We told our parents right away (@ 4 weeks.) As for extended family, they found out through our parents. We told our friends whenever we saw them, so it varied.

I'm 21 weeks and people are still finding out at work. Chat Icon (I didn't exactly go around spreading the word.)

I waited. I told my best friend a few days before the 12 week mark when we had a sonogram and i told another best friend that same week when I was in Boston (where she lives)- so I could tell her face to face.

Everyone else I waited until after 12 weeks.

Re: When did you start telling people?

We told our immediately family as soon as we got our BFP. We have slowly started telling friends as we see them. DH has told almost all of his friends, I have been holding off a little. My mom told her sister (I told her she could) and my MIL has apparently told everyone she knows- even though we asked her not to. Chat Icon

Re: When did you start telling people?

Wait...I was supposed to tell people MYSELF? I never got a chance to tell anyone but my mom because SHE blurted to EVERYONE, even though I didn't want her to. Chat Icon We told our close friends right away because we needed to cancel a trip we had planned because I would have been 6 months pregnant (the trip was scheduled for last week), and I knew I wouldn't be able ot make the trip.
I didn't tell work until I was 14 wks.

we told both sets of parents right away and the rest of the family and close friends when I was 6 weeks and now at 11 weeks, everyone knows. Its so difficult to wait and besides god forbid something were to go wrong, we would want support from family and friends. its what feels right to you and DH.

Re: When did you start telling people?

Well....my dad is the big mouth in our family and I made him promise not to tell anyone (his sister especially). So...he pretty much calls me everyday to ask if he can say anything yet. I'm thinking that after my appointment on Thursday if all is ok, I will let him tell...I will be 8 weeks.

ETA: When I first told my mom, she asked me if she should tell my dad because he has a big mouth...so mom was willing to keep it from him so I know she didn't tell anyone!

Re: When did you start telling people?

We had to tell someone last night b/c I'm in her wedding and she was going to pick a dress that would have been awful at 30 weeks PG(the waist pulled in and accented). She's my best friend and was the only one thet knew we were going to try so it was a huge relief to finally share.

We're only at about 5 weeks though so we're too scared to tell anyone else since it's a 50/50 success rate until the heartbeat then it's about 98% success. So no one else until a heartbeat.

Re: When did you start telling people?

I told my best friend at 10pm the night I though I saw a faint line...before I even told my husband. She happened to call just when I tested. At 4am I retested and told Scott.
We told our parents pretty quickly, within 2 weeks of the tests.
I told my boss at 6 weeks, which was good because at 10 weeks I had to stop commuting and work from home full-time.
I never "held" the news from anyone really.

Re: When did you start telling people?

we are not good at keeping secrets. we told my immediate family and DHs the day the dr confirmed the BFP we had gotten the night before at home. I was about 6 weeks.

told our best friends within a day or 2.

I had to tell my office right away as well because I take xtays at work and could no longer do that. would have looked fishy to protest taking them with no explanation ;)

we didnt use the 12 week rule.
