When planning a shower

I am a MOH this year and I have to plan a bridal shower...

Just a few questions...

1. I should be co-planning with the Mother of bride, how do I go about asking what she is planning to pay for? Or is it totally on the bridal party to throw the shower?

2. How much do I include the bridesmaids? Is it terrible if I (along with the MOB) choose the date, time, and place and then tell the bridal party when it is?

3. How do I go about finding out what the bridal party can afford?

Unfortunately, the wedding I am in is my best friends wedding...but the whole bridal party for the most part is her friends from college that I hardly know...

HELP!

I think the bridal party is the one that plans and pays for the shower and the moms can contribute what they want (time, money, etc). I would give her a call to see what she is planning to do.

I would definitely consult with the bridal about dates -- it's a shared responsibility. I would be kind of hurt & put out if I was in a bridal party and completely cut out of the planning and just told when to show up like a guest.

The best way to find out what people can do is to get in touch with everyone -- either in person or in email. You all have the bride and this wedding in common so it may be a little awkward, but it should be fine.

I agree with you 100%. My friend was upset because the MOH & the MOTB did this to the bridal party. They received an invitation in the mail just like everyone else. When they called to RSVP, they were told how much they were chipping in.

You need to include the entire bridal party as co-planners & work with the MOTB & FH re; the dates.

I would consult with both the MOB and bridesmaids about the shower. You dont want to hurt anyones feelings or plan in for a date when someone cant make it because of a previous engament.

Re: When planning a shower

I was my sister's MOH, and most of the bridal party consisted of my younger cousins, who I was not going to ask for money--it would have been like telling my aunts how much they owed--so I paid for the shower myself (my mom helped me with the invitations, and the cake, and deposit, I had it at the maine maid inn), so I booked the date well in advance, and I told the bridal party right away. my cousins made the favors, little terracotta pots they painted, and then my other couins planted little flowers in them, so 5 of them together on a table worked as the centerpiece too....

you can call her mom, and ask her mom if she had anything in mind as far as venue, I'm sure at that point she'll let you know what she's going to contribute. when you find a place that you like, pick two dates and call the BM's to decide which date works for everyone, and tell them about how much.....

Thank you so much! I am just nervous about asking the MOB if she plans to contribute any money...

Re: When planning a shower

I was my sister's MOH and my mom and I and my sister(it wasn't a surprise) planned everything and my mom paid for everything. The bridal party had no imput on anything. I guess it depends now a days if the Mother of the bride is throwing it or the bridal party.

Re: When planning a shower

I was in a wedding recently and was told by the MOB, MOH and Bride, that I was "only a bridesmaid" so I didn't have to do anything. However, the day of the shower I was told how much I owed. Chat Icon Anytime I've been a MOH, I've included everyone that wanted to be included, especially. That is how my sister handled mine.
