House hunting on hold for now

Sadly we decided to stop looking for house for a while. It's been a very discouraging process and it's put a strain on our relationship. We are quite comfortable in our apartment so we decided to keep saving and wait till we have more money. Congrats and best of luck to all of you who have found their beautiful homes Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: House hunting on hold for now

I did the same thing. House on hold for now.

I want to make sure I have my finances in 100% working order before I buy a house.

I am probably a bit over-paranoid about the whole situation... but I always like to be SURE before I jump in.

The house hunting will resume most likely in a few months.

i know its discouraging, but i think that more people really do need to be this way- theres definately a 'house craze' going on right now, but its definately better to hold off and be 100% POSITIVE of what you have, what you can afford, and what you want,,, before you dive in.

I know how it is.... we disagreed on so many things when house hunting. You'll find that place one day that both of you agree with, just like we did.

I am with you... After months of looking we found nothing in our price range and what we do like we can't afford... Neither one of us want to go all the way out east just to buy a house and be away from all of our family and friends... As well as our jobs....

As someone who is buying and selling at the moment I can agree it is a VERY stressful process. DH and I only had one fight while dating (about his ex-wife's being annoying) and we had our second this morning.

I can also understand how you want to make sure you have as much debt paid off and money saved before you dive in. Yes, the numbers are scarey out there. I've always been very frugal with my money but when I saw how much things were I almost died thinking that all of those years of savings would be gone very quickly. I was so used to seeing that money in my bank or in my investment account. Then I realized that there is no better investment than real estate. The stock market can be volatile but the financial investment of my home is something the probably will appreciate faster, I'll have instant equity as I improve it, and I'll get to enjoy it every day.

I do agree if you live in a cheap apt. or was just recently living with mom and dad or roommates you will have sticker shock. Just note that interest rates are going up and the prices of houses around here might not increase at the rate that they have beeen but they won't decrease either.

With all of that said you have to be comfortable with your finaces and with the house. I just walked into a house on Monday. Totally redone gorgeous colonial... over our budget... everything about the house was prestine but I just wasn't feeling it (my Dad was a carpenter and I inherited his picky home repair gene). Instead I bid on a house that is a DISASTER because I was feeling that one.Chat Icon
