How do I know if my cat is sick? - Update - 7/6/06

She throws up a lot - but it seems more than usual. She also hasn't really been going #2 When should I take her to the vet?


Update - Took the Pook to the vet this afternoon. Came home $500 poorer!! They did a whole round of tests - bloodwork, urinalysis, x-rays $$$.
Looks like she prob has UTI (PH in urine was high and there was protein) and she was a little dehydrated. You can see in the x-ray that she has some waste inside of her - but vet said that's ok.

So - until we get labs back - we're starting her on antibiotic injections.

My little one is so wiped out from the tests and she hates being in the carrier - she was crying so loud!

I'd take her now....not pooping can be a sign of an obstruction (which can be deadly)...and throwing up is no good either.

When in doubt, call your vet's office and see if they feel your cat should come in based on the symptoms...but not going to the bathroom is never good.

I'm going to watch her a little more right now. I'm not used to being home with her during the day (I'm on summer break) so I'm not sure of her regular schedule, etc.

that happened to my speedy in January... as it turned out her small intestines were obstructed and she had to have an operation (she had a big hairball)... she is fine now thankfully... but dont risk it and go to the vet!!!

My cats go # 2 about 2 x a day. Iw ould say uf you havent noticed it in at least one day she should go.

Again - that's for all the get well wishes. I went to the beach this afternoon and when I came back, a lot of activity had gone on in the litter box, so I feel better.
