Elementary teachers!

What are your plans/activities for the first day or two?

I want to see if I have too much planned or if I need more.

Re: Elementary teachers!

I'm 5th, so i have a getting to know you survey, i'm going to have them tour the room, and tell them about myself, and then I'm going to have them write about themselves for me (as a beginning assessment of their writing).

For math we're starting this Everyday Counts program that we got with our new math series, and then taking a pretest and playing Bingo with multiplication problems.

In SS we're doing stuff with the continents (I don't teach Science).

I hope I have enough Chat Icon

Re: Elementary teachers!

My tip is make sure you have a couple of things on hand that take 10 minutes or so. Have a read aloud (First Day Jitters, Chrysanthemum. I know they are young books, but they can relate at that age, still). Also, look online for crossword puzzles. I taught 5th last year, this year will be 1st (ack!) and I was able to get great ones from the NY times. It is called the Learning Network
