Question About Iron
I was never given a perscription for iron pills. I forgot to ask my Dr. today when I went, should I call and ask him about it? does EVERYONE take iron pills? Is it included in most prenatal vitamins.

I never took iron pills.
So far, I'm not taking them either
Did something perhaps show up in your blood work that your doctor recommended extra iron??

Re: Question About Iron
I never took iron pills either...they said the Iron in the prenatals should be sufficient.

Re: Question About Iron
that is something they check in your initial bloodwork (they check your iron level)- if it were low, they'd give you iron, otherwise, the iron in the pre-natals is enough for now. Sometimes towards end of pregnancy anemia can set in... that happened to my friend and she took iron pills from about 6 months on.

Re: Question About Iron
Thanks. Sorry for the million questions today.
What happend was my mom and friend said that they always took iron. And I got nervous that I wasn't taking them. Then, when I went to the Dr. today, I asked if there were any signs of anemia (I was anemic when I was a baby) and he said no. But I still wanted to ask him if I should be taking supliments and I forgot. DH and I were thinking that it is probably because the pre-natals are sufficient, but I wanted to see what the "experts" knew

Re: Question About Iron
Although I'm not anemic and my iron count was w/in the normal range, my OB told me to start taking an over-the-counter iron supplement (SlowFE) in addition to my prenatals.
I wouldn't suggest taking an iron supplement until you get the go-ahead from your OB.

Re: Question About Iron
When I went for my glucose test, the results showed that I my iron count was a little low. I started taking iron pills around my 28th week. I didn't get a prescription for the iron pills, I just got them over the counter.
