yes, it is safe. It never worked for me though with my heartburn. Eating bread and drinking milk helpedChat Icon

Re: Is tums safe?

I heard they are safe , yes (unfortunately they do NOTHING for my heartburn though Chat Icon)

Though I can vaguely recall reading that you really should not take a LOT of Tums on any given day - I remember one girl on this board had a problem with kidney stones (I think?) and it turned out it was because she was taking TOO many Tums -- (I'll try to do a search and find the post)

But a few a day shouldn't be a problem at all, and as someone else said the Calcium is good for us

Re: Is tums safe?

Yes, tums are safe, just be careful to drink plenty of water if you start taking them daily because you don't want to end up with kidney stones. I found that Maalox works better.

Re: Is tums safe?

Also, I switched from skim milk to light soy milk and that helped A LOT. I also eat soy yogurt. You my want to try that. I heard that milk helped heartburn, but for me it was causing the heartburn.

Re: Is tums safe?

I would call the dr about using them 1st trimester, just to be safe. My dr didn't want me using anything for the 1st trimester. But it's up to you

Feel better

they are definitely OK. My docotr told me to make sure I take at least 2 daily for extra calcium because I don't drink much milk.

I've lived on them in both pregnancies. They only help a bit nowadays, but every little bit helps.

I take them just not that many. I try and deal with the HB and if I just can't anymore I take one.

Re: Is tums safe?

They are definately OK to take since it is just calcium. Like everybody else said though, drink plenty of water, and don't take TOO many -- besides leading to kidney stones, it can cause "rebound hyperacidity". Calcium is a very strong and effective antacid, and sometimes the body responds by producing more acid!! Chat Icon

The "smoothies" taste better (and IMO work better). But for me, the liquid Mylanta (Orange Creme was my fave) worked better. I think it just coated better. I still don't leave home without my big blue bottle. Chat Icon
