Hope your day is going better than my sister's!
I've mentioned that my sister is traveling alone this week, to visit her best friend that's studying abroad in Florence this semester....
She flew out of JFK at 7pm last night on Air France - the ultimate goal was Florence, Italy - via plane to Paris, transfer plane to Pisa, then bus to Florence. (The airport in Florence is currently closed for renovations)
We got a frantic call at 5am saying that Charles de Gaulle (Paris Airport) wasn't recognizing her e-ticket as a real ticket, and wouldn't let her board the plane. By the time she got it all straightened out, she missed the connector to Pisa and had to wait another 3 hours for the next flight. 
THEY DON'T RECOGNIZE E-TICKETS! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT! Hellllooooo 2006!
She got the next flight to Pisa, but when she got to Pisa, she missed the bus to Florence and had to wait another hour for the next one. She's supposed to call when she gets there, and hasn't called yet. She's been traveling for 16 hours!!!
She's traveling alone, but luckily there were 3 other couples headed on a tour and following the exact same travel plan. She's terrified - she was crying on the phone the last we heard from her!
Oh, the irony - once she gets to Florence and meets up with her friend, they're headed to Paris for 2 days on a tour organized by the school.

Traveling alone can be a bi-otch!
Nope, E-tickets are NOT recognized for international travel. I tried to pull that one myself last year.
Nice of her friend to give her a heads-up about the school trip in advance

Nope, E-tickets are NOT recognized for international travel.
OMG! No one tells you that when you buy the darn tickets! 
Geez, Shorty that stinks! I hope her trip ends better than it began!

We FINALLY heard from her - she just got to Florence...its nearly 11pm.
When she was waiting at the bus station in Pisa to catch a bus to Florence, she learned that the commuter trains are on strike, so the increase in busriders was due to that.
She ended up sharing a cab with a couple my parents age from Connecticut, and an Italian salesman.
4 people in the cab for 1 hour - and it still cost her 30 EURO!
She said she wants to come home already

When I went to Italy, my friends and I got lost from our group in Florence on Easter. How scary, I kinda know what she is going through!! Hope everything works out!

Awwww.... poor Danielle. When my coworkers and I travel to Switzerland for work, we always miss our flight from CDG to Zurich I know how she feels... but it must be worse to be alone.
