Pool owners
We are buying a house with an inground pool, does anyone know approximately how much it costs to open and close as well as weekly maintenance?

Great question!! We are looking at houses too and so many houses are with inground pools!! Almost unavoidable!!!

The house we got came with a inground pool.
Between $100 to $200 to have someone open or close the pool.
to pay someone weekly to clean - I have no idea
Chemicals for the summer about $200
We had someone close the pool our first year but now we do it all ourselves. It is great!!!

we payed 550 to have the pool opened/ closed and maintanence ( they provide the chemicals too) from memorial day to labor day. HTH

The pool company we use to close the pool charges $35 a week to maintain it and vacuum it.

Wow those are great deals! We are in Putnam County and they are charging us $390 to open, $75 to vaccuum plus chemicals and $65 a week to maintain. I don't know what it costs to close.
ohhh and $250 for the water
Who do you use?

we pay $175 to open and again to close
I have no idea how much DH spends on chemicals, but it's less than the $40/week for the pool guy to maintain it
we did buy an aquabot though for $800ish...and it was the best purchase, it will definitely pay for itself

Unfortunately, that should not be your only worry.......
The cost of the pool may not just be the opening, closing, and chemicals.
Is the pool a vinyl lined pool ?
Is the pool a gunite pool ?
If its vinyl lined, when was the the liner last changed ? Are the walls wood (should be replaced), or metal ? Does it Leak ? New liners can cost over $3000 to replace ? Is coping in good shape ?
If it is gunite, how rough is the surface ? It may need to be marble dusted. Around $5000 just for dusting (may also need tiles replaced at extra cost)
How old is the pump/filter ? Is it heated ? (now you have fuel costs)
If you are seriously looking at a house that has a pool, and anything is questionable, you may want to contact a local pool company, and see if someone can come out and inspect it...
Seasonal costs will be chlorine, sand or DE, other balancing chemicals... and of course
floats, water guns, etc...

Thanks!! We are having a pool company come and open it before the closing next week to inspect it before we seal the deal. It is a vinyl pool and it was just replaced last year (she has all the paper work)

ah this is true, my stepbrother bought a house in Massapequa that had a huge inground pool and it needed over 10k of work so they had it filled!

Who do you use?
Island Recreational but I dont rec them- I waited 2 hours yes 2 hours just to make the opening appt! thier customer service S U C K S !!!!! this is our first year with them and I doubt I will use them again just b/c its so hard to get into contact with them- the store doesnt have a direct line you have to call 516 -520-1860 and its automated and you wait and wait till you get someone! No joke 2 hours, my phone has a timer- I went through Regis and Ellen show when someone finally answered!
