Diaper changing question....
What should I be putting on my son's tush when I change him--right now I really have not put anything because he does not have a rash and I was told that you only put powder/ointment if they have a rash already--not as a preventive measure.

How old is he? I used vaseline or A&D on my babies until they were about 2 months. Pretty religiously w/ every diaper change.

We used vaseline for 2 weeks, then a+d until she was about 2 months.
Then nothing for awhile, except if it got a little red I put some balmex or butt paste which cleared it right up.

I've never put anything on, just a wipe clean with a baby wipe and a clean diaper. We've never had any issues, knock on wood, he's never had a so much as a rash or anything!

Andrew's got a super-tush!! Either that or you're changing him hourly! 
We haven't had TOO many rashes, but there have definitely been a few doozies!!

I only used diaper cream if they had a rash. Otherwise just wipes (or papertowels when they were newborns).
eta. and of course A&D on the circumcision.

I never used anything on either baby and they have never had a rash. ALSO I've heard no powder because it's so fine that the babies breathe it in and it's not good for their lungs.

And believe me, I don't change him hourly  Just tonight the stench was so bad and me and DH played the "no, you change him" tirade for almost 20 minutes. Poor Andrew was just as happy as could be with a dirty diaper while his lazy parents went back and forth! ANd yes, I ended up changing him and giving him his bath! 
I still have the same tiny tube of Triple Paste I picked up when he was 2 months old and I thought his butt looked red....

Same here, except when he got a rash when he had a stomach virus - then I used Butt Paste

Same here. I only use Balmex at the first sign of a little redness.

I use Aquaphor with every diaper change and he has never had a rash..even with his stomach virus!

my daughter is 4 weeks and I put vasaline on her when she goes to bed. she sleep 8-9 hours at night and I don't want her getting a rash
