Back from my HSG

So all in all, I had no pain, just some discomfort like bad AF cramps.

I wish I could give all good news but I can't. It turns out my left side is completely blocked. I watched the screen as the Dr. injected the dye and nothing went into the left side. I turned and still nothing. He gave 3 sharp blasts to really try and blow it open (to which I responded with a loud "Oh shiat!"). Still nothing went through. The results will be to my OBGYN today but he won't be in until Monday. But the good news is that my right side is fine and I had no pain except for strong cramping on that third push of the dye.
Hopefully this was not a permanent thing and maybe it can be corrected with laproscopic surgery. I'll update you all on Monday after I speak with my Dr. Thanks to everyone for your good wishes and thoughts!

Donna, Like i said in my FM, chin up

i know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but your right side is fine and I am sure they can fix your left.

No worries...I know it sounds bad, but it is not the end of the world Chat Icon

Donna -- First, I am glad you weren't miserable for the procedure, that is a good thing.
Second, at least it is over. Chat Icon Chat Icon
Third, I have read many reports of women with only 1 tube getting pregnant fine - something about the other side reaching over for the egg? So I am truly hopeful that either this blocked tube can be easily remedied, or that you will be fine without any procedures at all....

Donna:
I sent you email already, but I just wanted to add that while the results were not ideal, this is not the worst case scenario either. Once your OBGYN review the result of the HSG, they will help you decide best what your next steps will be..
And with the other tube clear, you can still very well get PG! All it takes is one clear tube Chat Icon

Re: Back from my HSG

Thanks so much everyone. I'm just curious at this point to know if it has always been blocked. I think I'd be that much more shocked that I did get PG the first time. Just looking forward to Monday now...................

Donna I'm so glad to hear that you didn't have much pain!!! I hope your conversation goes well with your doctor on Monday!!! I had laproscopic (sp?) to clear my tube years ago and it wasn't too bad. Hopefully you won't have to even bother with that!! Fingers crossed!! Try to have a nice weekend!!!

Donna, I'm so glad that you had little discomfort during the test. I'm sorry to hear that one of your ovaries is blocked...and I hope that we will be hearing news of a BFP from you soon

Re: Back from my HSG

I've posted this before so most of you already know, but according to my HSG results, both tubes were 100% blocked. I was told by my OB/GYN that I had no option but to go directly to IVF. I did my own research, scheduled a tubal cannulation procedure at Stony Brook Hospital, they did a routine HSG before the procedure only to find that both tubes were 100% open. This of course came after months of crying hysterically thinking I could never have children on my own. Both tubes were likely in spasm when I had the first HSG bc I was so nervous. Second time around, I was drugged so I wasn't tense. Don't trust the results entirely. Even if they are real, you still have one working tube and that's all you need. Chat Icon

Susan,
Thanks for posting about your experience. Can I ask - did you watch the screen while the dye was going in? He really seemed to think it could just be from my c-section and that it wasn't permanent. It is making me wonder though if that could be the reason AF has been so completely wacky though. And if it has always been blocked, I did get PG once and will hope it can happen again.
I'm curious though, what was the difference between your two HSG's? Just the nervousness factor?

I only ovultae from one side as well. I have a lazy left ovary which never produces mature follies...and the Drs think I will or should not consider that a "problem".

Im still thinking it might be the spasm Susan mentioned as well. She is one of 3 people I know who were told they have one or two blocked tubes and they were not once a repeat was done.

I think your OB will be bale to provide you with more info for sure.

As far as AF, I honestly done think the tube issue would affect it. Since AF is mainly controlled/influenced with Utereine issues as far as being heavy, light etc. But Im no expert there....Try not to think the worse though. Chat Icon

They drugged mia up via IV for my second iv. And I had an oxygen mask. They planned to go directly to the procedure which is why they hooked me up this way. But even just to do the HSG, the doctor kept telling the nurse to up my dosage bc i was too tense "down there" for him to get the dye thru. Once they upped the meds, I watched it flow right through both tubes. I also watched the screen the first time but they could only see my uterus. It most definitely could be from your c-section.
