No sono til 20 weeks!?!?! What to do??

I am in my 7th week, have my first appt on Oct 5 for what they call a Prenatal Interview. I asked the Nurse what goes on and she said a detailed family history, blood work ans setting a 1 week f/u appt with her or the Dr. I asked if there would be a first sono. She said no, they don't do a sono until 20 weeks, for anatomy. That sorta upsets me b/c this is our first time around, and 1-I want to make sure this little bugger is where he/she belongs, 2-want to make sure things look okay and 3- want to see if there is 1 or 2, just 'cause.

How can I get a sono?? Should I just call and tell them I want a sono the same day? I am not sure I can wait til 20 weeks. Plus we're going to visit my parents, who live out of state, and will be telling them in person that we're pregnant, I'd really like to have a sono pic to show off.

TIA!!

That doesnt make sense. Your 2nd sono is usually the 20 week, thats the case with most not all docs...sometimes its the 3rd, but thats a first I hear of a first...

I would call your insurance company and ask how many sonos your entitled to...
Then yes, I would ask for one..if they for some reason dont want to do it then I would ask for a script and have it done at any radiology center..
If they wont even do that, I would consider another doctor...If your insurance will pay for it and they refuse to give you one it could be a big indication on other things that they may or may not do througout your pregnancy.

Re: No sono til 20 weeks!?!?! What to do??

Not all doctors do a sono early on. With my 1st, I didn't get a sono until 20 weeks. With this pg I got one early because I wasn't sure when my last period was so they need to measure the baby.

I know you want to see your bean to make sure that everything is OK. For my 1st pg, I ended up renting a doppler so I can hear the hb to ease my mind.

I always thought you got one early sono and then the 20 week was your 2nd. Honestly I don't think I'd be comfortable waiting - but that's just my nature.

Depends on the doctor...I had one sono at 20 weeks and that is all I get unless another is medically necessary.

With all three of mine I did not get one until 20 weeks and that was it the one and only. I know how hard it is to wait!!!

You can go for the Ultrascreen between 11-13 weeks.

I chose not to do any testing so I guess that is why I didn't get any others.

When I moved to NC, the dr did not offer this since I was not over 35..in NY, my first sono was at 8 weeks. In NC, the first one would have been 20 weeks.

My office was the same way but I had a breakdown at my 1st appointment and got one. I also went for the Ultra Screen so you get one then as well.
