For those who publically donated their cord blood
Where did you donate it to? I know some hospitals have their own banks, but you can donate it even if your hospital doesn't have its own.

I don't remember, who ever NSUH has a contract with. I think NY Blood Center?
According to Parents Magazine, both LifebankUSA and Cryobanks International are private banks that accept donations. Not sure exactly how that works.

I am looking into Crybanks and also Community Blood Progam's public donation
ETA: NY Blood Center only picks up from NSUH, Columbia Presbyterian and Cornell Hospital.

Re: For those who publically donated their cord blood
Good luck! It's so frustrating how much work this is for you. Since the process was pretty much transparent to me when we did it, I just assumed that it was that way at all hosptials.
Have you found anywhere that accepts donations for research purposes? Last time around, I contacted so many parkinson's research facilities (my grandmother has it) and not one got back to me. I'd love to use it to help lots of other people, you know?

Re: For those who publically donated their cord blood
Cyberbanks only uses it for research purposes if it cannot be donated for whatever reason. I actually don't want my cord blood to be used for research, but rather for donation.
What is REALLY frustrating, is that my doctor didn't even know you can donate it and is very against the idea. Although he IS the one who told me about Cyberbanks- I think he will be surprised to know that they do more public donations that private ones.
