nope! I think that as a parent, I would not bring my child unless she was the flower girl or something and even then, I would line up a sitter for the reception.

I wasn't against having children at my wedding - my feeling is still the same. Although now I wouldn't want to take DD to a wedding. Chat Icon

We did not have children at our wedding. And now that DD is 18 months old I am glad we choose that, becuase knowing her personality, she is the kinda kid we didnt want at our wedding Chat Icon She is good, but is ALL over the place and when she doesnt get what she wants, she can be loud. When we are invited to a wedding without children, I am actually happy to have a 'night out'

My daughter is a flowergirl in my brothers wedding on the 3rd and I am making arrangments for my IL's to pick her up at the reception so we can enjoy our selves. She will be cranky from not napping and we will not be able to enjoy. Same for my BIL's wedding in September, my sister will pick her up.

No. I dont think that children belong at most weddings. People get drunk, silly, its just not a place where kids need to be. Plus its a good opporunity for the adults to go out together.

Re: Questions for Moms-Concerning bringing kids to weddings....

We were never against having children at our wedding and we didn't have any issues with the ones that came to ours. My cousin's wedding is this weekend and we can't go, because no children are allowed and we can't find somebody to watch him for 2 plus days. Did it kind of tick me off? Yeah, but I guess it would only tick off somebody that originally never minded having children at their wedding...

we did not invite any children to our wedding...of course people were annoyed but that was our personal preference..and YES I still feel that kids don't belong even after having my DS..

We did not have any children at our wedding, except for DH's 3 nephews who were a bit older anyway (7, 11, 13); my own godson didn't even come at 2 years old. For my own wedding, I didn't want little ones there.

As a parent, I still feel the same way and would totally not be offended if my daughter wasn't invited to a wedding. Guess what...even if she was, I wouldn't bring her--I would like to have a few drinks and relax!!

Re: Questions for Moms-Concerning bringing kids to weddings....

my son is the ring bearer in my SIL wedding next June....

He will be at the ceremony, and cocktail hour...and then he is being sent home!

I just dont feel its necessary for him to be there, AND its harder for me to enjoy myself- if I have to chase after him...

Had it been during the day, and he been a little older- i might think differently...

I also did not have kids at my wedding and would rather go to a wedding without them now. My daughter was in my sister's wedding and that is the only reason she was there. There was only 1 other kid there and they were out of town and had no one to watch her as the whole family was at the wedding.

I had children at my wedding, not many, but there were some, and to be honest, I wouldn't want to bring her to a wedding. I wouldn't be able to fully enjoy myself. I have a wedding next month, and I'm SO looking forward to my mom and dad watching her so we can go and have fun!

Re: Questions for Moms-Concerning bringing kids to weddings....

I had my nieces as flower girls and my friend's son as a ring bearer but that was it. My Husband's brothers' wife brought her six month old and then proceeded to complain all evening about the loud music, the drinking and yes even the smoking that was in the foyer. My thought?? She should not have brought him because uh duh, it's a wedding and there's going to be loud music, drinking and smoking!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Questions for Moms-Concerning bringing kids to weddings....

My orginal ruling on the subject still stands...it is up to the bride and groom. I had only neices and nephews at my wedding. I did not want small infants crying thru the ceremony and reception. I would not be offended if Molly was not invited as long as it was not one of our siblings weddings.

Re: Questions for Moms-Concerning bringing kids to weddings....

Im not a mom, but have to add my recent situation.
My wedding and two kids that were there, not by choice. Both are my nephews, age 3 and the other 9 months old. The father was the best man.
Both were not in the BP but they asked me and put me on the spot, if they could bring them to wedding,..they had no sitter and I had to say ok.

Well, the little guy was sick, my hall screwed up and didnt provide a highchair, so his mom had to cary him all nite. Then she would bother her husband to hold him and back and forth. He was our best man and looking to enjoy himself.
I also asked my SIL to place the double stroller in the bridal suite since I didnt want a huge thing in the room.
The other little guy crawled all over my dancefloor, almost got stepped on and others had to watch him other than his parents.
Oh and the photographer seemed at one point to be snapping more of pictures of him then of us, the "married" couple.

So, at showing his brother and wife the proofs, the 1st thing out of his brothers mouth was, I am never again bringing my kids to a wedding!!

It took my wedding for them to realize that.

Re: Questions for Moms-Concerning bringing kids to weddings....

I wasn't against having kids at a wedding but DH didn't want them. For what we would be paying for plate charges, I could've hired a personal clown for each kid, so we opted to hire babysitters for those with kids.

Now my feelings are, unless they're family members, kids should stay home. I would consider it a fun night out- and welcome the night off.

eta. My favorite pictures of weddings are of the flower girl looking at a bride. The awe is so apparent on their face. So I would still have kids in the bridal party, introduce them at the reception & have them shipped home.

I didn't have kids at the wedding and would not be offended at all if DD couldn't go to a wedding. I am the MOH for a wedding in October and already have the babysitter lined up for Dd....looking forward to the night out
