My poor baby

Had a sore throat so my DH took her to the DR today and it turns out its strep. So the Dr put her on Amoxil, she had her second dose tonight and now i think she is having an allergic reaction to the med. She is breaking out in a rash. I read up on Strep and the Med, kids can get a rash with strep, and a severe allergic reaction to Amoxil is breaking out in a rash. So my DH called CVS and they said to give her benadryl and call the DR in the AM.

Just FYI - a "rash" to a penicillin-type drug (i.e. Amoxil) is a common adverse reaction -- not necessarily an allergy. They can also get a much more serious rash, which is not common. "Hives" from a penicillin-type drug IS a true allergic reaction. Don't label your baby as being penicillin allergic unless you know for sure, as it REALLY decreases the number of medications that can be used for the rest of her life if she gets sick. Definately hold off with the medicine for tonight and give the Benadryl, but when you go to the doctor be sure to have him determine whether it is a side effect or a true allergic reaction. There IS a difference, and it is important to differentiate between the two.

I took my son to the doc for a rash he had a cold for awhile. It ended up being Empitigo which is a form of strep. He didnt seem sick at all not complaining or anything. Doc took a throat culture and he also had strep. I was SOOOO surprised because he really didnt seem sick to me
