Endometriosis and surgery

When I was 20 I had a really bad case of Endometriosis (probably because it took my college doctor 6 months to diagnosis my pain - apparently wasn't gas, constipation or my appendix.) Both my fallopian tubes where full of scar tissue and my ovaries collapsed. They found this via laparoscopy and ended up doing the surgery to clean out my tubes and put everything back where it belongs. Of course this led to the conversation of my future fertility. It's been 13 years since that surgery and that conversation and this is my first time TTC.

Has anyone had a similar situation and was still able to conceive and carry?

Thanks!

Re: Endometriosis and surgery

I would definitely ask to get a HSG xray done. This is where they insert dye via a catheter into your cervix and then the dye flows through your fallopian tubes and uterus. This exam will give you an idea on how your tubes are and if they are both clear.

Thanks Redstar!!

Should I try for a few months first, or just have the test asap? Also, not to sound silly but it is painful? I just like to be prepared, I wouldn't not do a procedure b/c it may hurt

Re: Endometriosis and surgery

Well that's a personal choice. However, if the tubes are blocked you can't conceive naturally, only through IVF. It depends on if that knowledge will help you or discourage you.

It wasn't painful for me, but I took a lot of advil prior to the xray. There is a post about it on the infertility board. The xray itself lasts about 5 minutes.
