They say you can with certain dyes..but IMO...I wouldn't go there. The baby will be exposed to enough stuff that is out of our controlChat Icon

You had to see me after I gave birth...I looked like a raccoon (one half of my hair was DARK and one was bright blonde...waay prettyChat Icon )Chat Icon

Re: Hair Coloring

I had my hair HIGHLIGHTED while pregnant. With dye the crap touches your scalp and more is absorbed into your body. Highlighting just does the hair and very little if any gets into your body. My girl also used veggie dye which is better than chemicals. I had my hair done at 4 weeks and every 3 months until both kids were born and they are 100% perfectChat Icon

It depends on the doctor. My friend's said no because she bleaches. I get a single process & my dr said I was find from the get go.. of course I started out the appointment with "Can I color my hair during my first trimester or do I need to switch doctors?"

In the handout they give out for all of the restrictions, descripitons of all of the tests, etc...it said nothing has been found to substantiate anything against coloring your hair.

etd: I had mine done every 4 weeks from start to finish.

Re: Hair Coloring

there is something called a Vegetable Dye and that is more natural and there are no harming chemicals in it... that would work.

I chose not to. To me the fact that there was no 100% guarantee that is was safe was enough for me not to. I know plenty of women do and their babies are fine but personally I would wait it out if you can.

Me too. My doctor told me plenty of things are fine - but the neurotic worrier that I am said its better to stay away from certain potential hazards then to risk it. I am sure that about 90% of the things I stay away from are fine, but I am one of those "better be safe than sorry".

Re: Hair Coloring

So really I guess it is up to the discretion of the mommy to be....but highlights are better then whole coloring, is that right?

My doctor said coloring every 6 weeks or so if fine, even in the first trimester. I think I'd wait until the first trimester is over, just to be safe.

I am soooo gray! Chat Icon It's terrible. There's no way I could let it grow out. I've heard conflicting things about whether it's safe or not. I waited until after the 1st trimester and colored my hair at 13-14 weeks. I'm 20 weeks now and it's looking like I need a touch up!
