ALERT: NYC public schools will be open on Monday, February 13th. Buses will run on regular schedules, but delays should be expected. Parents should exercise judgment in terms of a child's ability to board the bus and the length of the trip if there are delays. All field trips are cancelled. Afterschool programs and the 37.5 minutes of extended time will operate on normal schedules. (posted 2/12/06, 7 PM)

I am supposed to take my kids to the Metropolitan Museum on Wednesday, and it's quite a hike to the subway (about a 15 minute walk with no snow).
You think I should cancel?

of course they are. This way Bloomberg can say biggest blizzard in recent history, and our schools were open, can't stop us.
 I'm not surprised.

They never think of the teachers... my DH says they open so the kids can have there free breakfast/lunch. Dh is a teacher in NYC.

Its a mess out there! I dont know how anyone is going to find parking...and is it really safe to have the children get to school in this mess???
Bloomberg is on a power trip..I know they usually dont close but hes just ridiculous!

Not everyone can take public transportation... at least the teachers. To go the 7 miles I live from my school, I would have to take a bus to the train which I would have to take into Manhattan and then change at Times Square to come back into Queens again. They forget about the residential areas of Queens which is not easily accesible by public transportation. It really should be a district by district decision.

I made it in. The local roads were messy but the highways were fine.
What annoys me is that half the teachers who are out are ones who live nearby.
My car is parked SO far from the curb, up against a big pile of snow. So is everyone else's. I hope we aren't breaking any parking regulations.
