Started shopping for a housee

So yesterday we began our house shopping.

We don't want to rush into things, but there is a house that we have been staring at online for the past month. When we saw it yesterday, we just felt like it would be perfect. However, it was only our first day out. This house is in our price range, in one of our top three towns, and is one a great street! Very, very wide nicely paved street. And it is on one of those types of blocks that unless you live there, there is no reason to go down, so there is really no thru traffic.

The house has some old fashion things that would need to be updated, but it looks like something we can see ourselves in for the nex 30 years. An elderly woman lives there who is looking to move, the house has been on the market for 3 months, so our RE agent feels we can probably start with a real low bid - which would help us a lot.

We do not want to rush into things, but we feel as if we keep looking, we are really skeptical to finding something that fits us like this does. .

Is it normal to feel like this?

When you all were looking around, would you fall in love with a house and then by the next week see so many more that you forget about it?

How long did it take you from when you first started looking until you found the home that you decided to bid on?

I think it is very normal to feel skeptical. We looked for about three months and actually went to contract on a house (not the one we ended up buying)

The house that we went to contract on - was a nice house and in our price range. I honestly didn't love it - but it was the nicest of the houses we saw that we could afford. We ended up backing out of that house becuase the owners kept going back on their word about a lot of things.

We ended up raising our price range a little bit - and found our house. We loved it - and looking back made such a good decision. We got REALLY lucky with our house! You will know when you find the right house.

Believe me - I would walk into just about every house that I saw and be like "I could make this work" -- but you really have to weigh everything about the house and take it all into consideration.

Also - if the house has been on the market for awhile it may not hurt to check out some other houses just to compare!

We had the reverse problem - finding anything we liked.

Finding the "right" house is def difficult but be sure that you lock in on a good rate so you can give yourself ample time to look and still take advantage of the low % rates.

What is bothering us the most is the start of the decrease in prices....we are wondering how long we should hold out for...since it seems as the surge of buying is stopping and the $$$ are falling

It's a very tough tall. Traditionally, prices fall (or don't go up) in the winter months, so the prices could decrease more. In my mind, people don't usually like to go through the buying/selling of homes around the holidays. Should someone be selling, it would tell me they really need to get out - perhaps a way for you to negotiate a good price. Good Luck!

Danielle and I looked at over 40 houses and found 2 that we liked. The first one had a few things that we would just settle for - including the following:
Small bedrooms
Awkward layout
no dining room
Oil tank in the ground
The good thing was it was totally renovated - move in condition. The kitchen was huge and it was an open plan.
there was 2.5 new bathrooms.
Long driveway

I am glad we didnt settle - we looked more and found the house we bought. A 4 bedroom 1 bathroom home that was in great condition. We are just doing a little tweaking, well actually a lot of tweaking to get it to what we want, but there is plenty to work with - with this house. With the other house, there was no where to go, if we wanted to expand.

What I am trying to say is you will know when you find "your" house
