Anyone color their hair at home?

What is the difference between doing it at home and doing it at the salon, besides the fact that you get someone else to do it for hiyou? Aren't they using the same colors?

I was thinking of just buying a box of color and using it at home. I just want to cover a few grays, nothing fancy, no highlights? how hard could it be? DO you think it's doable? And what brand of color is good?

I think it is doable. I always help my mom, because if she does it herself she usually misses a patch in the back. I'd have a friend help if you can. I go to the salon because I get highlights.

When I do mine at home, I don't buy the boxed stuff. I go to Sally Beauty and buy Wella. I like the stuff better than the box stuff you can buy at CVS.

It's not bad doing it alone. Make sure you have gloves and an old button down shirt. Be careful not to squirt the dye everywhere though!

I do it at home, not often but enough. For me it's a pain, I don't like doing it. I've never had it done at a salon so I probably should try it. I use Clairol (sp?) and I use the one that's not permanant so it washes out in 28 shampoos. I do it for a slight hint of red for my brown hair.

I do my own hair. the only times i've had it done in the salon, it's killed my hair. I just think it's less harsh on my hair. It's so easy too, as long as you cover your whole head, it's practically fool-proof.

I've done it myself at home too. I always get 2 bottles though (I would get everything at the beauty supply) so that I could be sure to get it everywhere and not miss a spot.

Re: Anyone color their hair at home?

All the time. It is super easy, a lot cheaper and you can do it at your convenience in your home. I hate going to the salon to get my hair colored.

I would NOT do a drastic change with an at home product. You could turn your hair a funny color. As long as you are only going a shade or two up or down you will be fine.Chat Icon
