BFing moms and birth control..

We've probably discussed this before...but I forget...

WHat is everyone who is BFIng doing for birth control??? Can you go on the pill?

I know Im done for awhile after this baby is born, but am not sure what my options are...

pull-n-pray=to risky for me!
condoms(esp latex)- irritate me big time(sorry if tmi)

Abstinence seems like the only way However I dont think DH will agree

What are the options..and what did/do some of you use?

If you are going to be BFing then you can go on the mini-pill. You cannot go on the regular birth control pill because it reduces your breastmilk. I am on the mini pill and I don't have any problem with it...

ETA - You have to be careful to make sure you take the pill at the same time everyday - my prescription paper said that if not taken correctly that 1 in 20 women get pregnant within a year of starting the minipill - that's high!

They brought back the sponge(which was otriginally taken off the market because of production issues NOT safety issues) It seems somewhat easy to use and doesn't put all those hormones into your body. I think you have to use it with spermicide and you would have to put it in before you get busy-but seems like a good idea.

Mini-pill is the recommended pill but some OBs will let you take a "regular" pill, but it can dry your milk supply up considerably.

I'm thinking an IUD, but I know we are done for a while after this one. Although, you can get it inserted and taken back out in less than 5 years with no problems. The only thing is you have to wait until you get your first period back and go in almost immediately.

I was on the mini-pill last time and didn't like it. I had a lot of break through bleeding and made it almost to the point were I was going to be weaning to go back on my regular pill and ended up getting pregnant.

Seriously, I consider abstinence too.

I was doing the birth control shot which you get once every three months. I did that until I was done with the BFing. I was doing both bfing and formula feeding.
