questions about Time Warner DVR, TIVO and Replay

DH and I are thinking about getting a DVR box through time warner, but we are wondering how this compares to TIVO and Replay. Can someone explain the differences and or benefits/drawbacks to each of these systems? If you have one of them, are you happy with it?

Re: questions about Time Warner DVR, TIVO and Replay

Get the Time Warner DVR because its an all-in one box.

If you get Tivo or Replay... it acts as a "middle" box and its a little more involved.

The only good thing about Tivo or Replay is they are hackable if you are technical enough. There are a number of things you can do with a hacked box (like download shows you recorded to your computer and burn to DVD).

So that may be beneficial to you if you are looking for hacks. Chat Icon

Thanks Rich...I knew you'd have info about this!

DH loves things he can hack, but I was just on the TIVO and replay websites and realized they need phone lines to work. We don't have a regular landline, just VOIP, so that wouldn't work.

I think I answered my own questions 2 minutes after posting! With TIVO and Replay, you need to buy a box plus pay $12.95 monthly! DVR is just $8.95 monthly for the box - can't compare!
