Sorry I don't remember the street name but by Penn's Landing there are a lot of trendy restaurants/bars. The historic sites were fun to see also- oldest street, liberty bell, independance hall. DH and I had a great time when we went there. Also there was good shopping on Chestnut Street.

Re: Things to do in Philadelphia, PA.

I love Philly.

The Rose Tatto Cafe is excellent for dinner. Romantic and yummy too.

Philly CHeese steak at that place in the market (can't remember the name)

The Phila. Museum of Art usually has some great exhibits....besides their regular stuff. We went last year for Dali.

And as everyone says Independence Hall and the surrounding area - and the Philadelphia Fish Co. right in that neighborhood.

I haven't been there in ages but South Street had some cute shops to look around in kind of like the Village.

Jim's Steaks on 4th & South had the best cheese steaks.

Re: Things to do in Philadelphia, PA.

We go to Philly a lot and were just there two weeks ago.

Here is what we always do..

- Reading Terminal for gourmet foods, etc.

- Walk around on South Street

- Walk around near Rittenhouse, go to shops on Walnut, Chestnut, etc.

- Can take an afternoon drive to Manayunk or Chestnut Hill

- Bestsy Ross house-- was interesting- we were just there.

- I forget the name- but I wanted to do this when we were there-- there is a street- starts with a D (like Deluth, or something) that is the oldest residential street in Philly. You can walk around and one house is open to the public

- Philadelphia Museum of Art-- also site of Rocky steps

- Walk around Old City/Society Hill

- Walk through their diamond district-- head to Max Weiner-- we got some stuff there!

Let me know if you want restaurant reccos.

i grew up about 20 minutes from there in south jesey....
all the girls are right- you can do reading (to get you local, its pronounced red-ing) terminal market for some cool gourmet food type things ( amish stuff, italian stuff)
go to see the liberty bell , constitution hall, get a cheese steak from ginos, south street is cool. the franklin institute is kind of a fun museum with all sorts of neat science stuff. they have a planetarium there and do these cool laser light shows set to music...
old city is where a lot of the night life is- there are some great bars and restaurants. try continental- very cool food. for bars, tiki bobs is fun, finnegans wake, the plough and the stars ( great music here), blue martini....
you can also venture across the bridge to NJ to the newly redone camden aquarium. camden has a super bad rep, but the waterfront area where the aquarium is isn't bad.
have fun!!

Good ideas. If you go to the Betsy Ross house, you can go right next door and see the bldg where the "Real World in PHiladelphia" was shot.

Re: Things to do in Philadelphia, PA.

I lived in Philly for 7 years, and now I live about 15 mins away... these are my top picks:

- Kelly Drive - take a walk - it's beautiful along boathouse row. Maybe yo'll be lucky and will catch a regatta

- Art museum

- Rodin museum (MUST SEE)

- I'd avoid South Street - it's not what it used to be - used to be lots of artsy people and stores, but it has become slightly ghetto

- Olde city - lots of trendy boutiques and restaurants. That's DEFINITELY the place to be for nightlife

- Rittenhouse square area - REALLY nice brunch restaurants - high end shopping

- Liberty bell (eh... but hey, it's part of philly history)

- Elferth's alley - it's an absolutely amazing row of the oldest homes in center city Philadelphia - they are owned and maintained privately, but once a week they open the homes to the public for tours. I highly suggest it

- If you're there in October, there is an AWESOME "ghost" tour of Philadelphia - they go through some of the more historic parts of town and tell you the stories associated with them. It's really fun...
FM me if you have specific questions - I know the city like the back of my hand!
