So I told Mom we were TTC...
... and she got very excited. I Wasn't going to but shes been rather down lately. I asked her if she would knit or crochet us a blanket when the time comes and she said "Oh I have one that Grandma made for you kids that we never used." Apparently this thing has been sitting in a box for close to 40 years and my grandmother passed away before I was born (I was named for her). I dont know the blanket's condition, but I am glad to know that my child will have an heirloom. I am also wondering why she didnt give it to my brother or sister when THEY had kids . I KNEW I was the favorite!
Anyway, I was glad to put a smile on her face. It will give her something positive to look forward to since losing Dad. I still want her to make me us a blanket! Then again, she bought me wool to make a sweater for college in 1988 and I now have a Bachelor's and Master's and NO SWEATER.

That's very cool. (Except the part about the no sweater that is.)
Have you ever tried to learn how to knit? My mom taught me about 5 years ago and I love it. She knit for me for years, but now she has problems with her hand. So now I make her sweaters.

Re: So I told Mom we were TTC...
Im actually going to sign up for knitting classes at AC Moore. I know my mother or MIL could teach me but I figure that getting out of the house and meeting people might be better for me!

Great. And having other knitters around will be helpful because they can help you if you get stuck. (And I understand wanting to go to classes. I don't feel like I really meet people either.)
I resisted learning about knitting for years--but my mom kept dragging my to the knitting store. Finally she said to me that if I wanted any more sweaters, I needed to start learning to make them.
If you're near Port Jefferson, The Knitting Cove is a great store and they also have knitting classes. The woman who owns the store is also very very nice. And if you're working on a project, you can always stop by for help. (But I'm sure there are other stores out there too. I am just familiar with this one because it's near my parents house.)
