Anyone familiar with West Islip??
My FI has been looking into houses in this area and they don't seem as expensive as Nassau County. Just wondering about the area and the schools. If anyone would like to share any info I would appreciate it...TIA

I grew up in West Islip. Schools are very good (at least they were when I went there!), area is very nice. I loved it, if I could have talked dh into buying a house there I definitely would've loved to continue living there. He just didn't want to live too close to his in-laws, lol!

DH grew up in West Islip. The area he lived in was VERY nice and when he was in HS, the schools were great.

West Islip is a great area. The schools are good too. Just make sure if you are looking close to Bayshore that the schools are West Islip. I looked at a few houses and the schools were Bayshore, even though the mailing address was West Islip.

My two cousins live out there one has 5 kids all in elementry school the other in the high school and they love it!!!!!
Good Luck! Houses are much more reasonable over there! At least it seems so...

Yeah we are noticing that the decent houses in Nassau are very out of our price range so I think we are going to have to venture East

My brother lives there. The schools are excellent (as long, as someone else mentioned, it is W Islip SD and not Bay Shore). It's too far out for us but the area is nice.

I live in West Islip and I love it here. The neighborhood is great and my neighbors are friendly. It's also close to Babylon village and the Babylon train (a main line and station). I was also happy that we have sewers and not septic tanks and cesspools - what a difference!!! West Islip is large and there are various neighborhoods, so check the area around whatever houses you are considering to make sure you like it. By the way, there is a house down the street from me for sale that looks nice - FM me if you want details and I'll tell you what I know.

My sister lives in West Islip and it is great. She has three children 2 which are on school and the schools are great and it is such a family orriented community. We hope to more there someday with our children.
