Need some help please - graphic design (SWR, sry.)

I want to get a head start on my save-the-dates this summer. I'm not mailing them until November (with Christmas cards).

I'm HOPING to be able to design them myself, but I'm not sure if I can.

Here's what I want:

I want a decent sized magnet, like 4x6 (but vertical) - with a calendar of ALL of 2007 on it (like the calendars some companies send out around holiday time). Our wedding month will be a different color (so it stands out), and the date will be circled in a heart. The calendar should take up about 1/3 of the entire magnet...the bottom 1/3 will be a picture of us (our non-existent e-pics), and all the save-the-date info.

I know if I have to hire a company to make these, it'll cost me a chunk of change.

Anyone have any ideas/advice? How to do it myself? What companies to look into?

Thanks!

You can just try to glue photo paper to a magnet. There are a bunch of crafty girls on the craft board that could probably help you figure it out.

I think you might try vistaprint.com

you could try creating your own calender, shrinking it down to size, adding in your photo and then having that professionally printed on a magnet

I ordered something very similiar from e-bay. I don't remember the name of the vendor but I just did a quick search and there are a lot of them. I am not that good with graphic stuff on the computer so I did it this way. It was about $30 for 75 or 100 of them I don't remember now. But basically she designed them and cut the paper and glued it onto a large business card magnet.

this sounds like a plan, too!
I really don't have a great photo printer - where can I take it to be printed? Kinkos? Staples? They both do that, right?

You can definitely do this yourself. You can use MS word or Excel to create the calendar (this is what I did). I only had the month of my wedding on the magnet, and the date circled. Also..you can buy magnet paper and cut it down to size. I used business card size magnets, so they came pre-cut this way.

No need to hire anyone....this is a total DIY project! Good luck!

I searched dave the date magnet and came up with a ton of matches--you can e-mail the sellers and see if they are willing to work with you to get what you like. Thats what I did--she send me about 5 proofs before I found what I wanted.

i can try to help you with this...

however, i know nothing about magnets and would have to research who actually does this. 4X6 sounds huge, my boss sent out nice magnets that i thought were perfect in size (not too big, not too small).

what i would do is design something in photoshop and upload it to a site that creates magnets.

Re: Need some help please - graphic design (SWR, sry.)

thanks so much guys!!!

I emailed some ebay vendors. I don't want to spend a penny over $100, and I really only need 75 magnets. (I'd prefer to find them for $1 a magnet, but that may be hard, considering the size.)

I REALLLLY want the full 2007 calendar magnet - everyone in my family always sticks those ugly insurance company magnets on their fridges so they have a calendar.

Lets see if I get any reponses.
If I go DIY, I'll try to make the calendars first, then once we take the e-pics, I'll just add the pic in.

When I made mine I used printable business cards (Staples) and attached them to magnets (also at Staples). I used a graphic art program to design them (mine also had a calendar) and then printed them out and stuck them together.

I know there are paper companies that sell printable 8x10" magnet sheets that will go through an inkjet printer. All you'd have to do is cut them to size.
