My Poor Girl- kind of long--Sad Update
Ok so I just got my 2 ladies today around 12pm. All day I been noticing that my smaller one, Chloe, has been honking like a goose even now as I write this she's in her bed honking.
So I called up the rescue lady I got them from and ask her what's wrong with Chloe should I be rushing her to an Vet ER???
Well she tells me that Chloe has something called a Collapsed Trachea. She said that when Chloe was first brought in she did it all the time and then stopped and hasn't done till today in the car and that's why she failed to mention it. She tried to assure me that it will go away. She did bring Chloe to the vet and he said that her condition didn't need treatment.
But I am still worried. Has anyone ever heard about this condition. I looked it up on the net and it says its common in poms and yorkies and other toy breeds. Its treated with cough meds.
I am going to take her to the vet. So can any recommend a great vet that does like weekly payment plans( I have a tight budget and terrible credit made some poor credit choices when I turned 18) I looked into pet insurance, the VPI I believe its called its at this website my.petinsurance.com but 2 things are holding me back from it. One that you pay up front and then you get reimbursed, how much do you get reimbursed? Has anyone ever used them before? And two Chloe has this as a pre existing condition and I don't think that it covered if I am reading it right. Oh yeah and you have a 14 day waiting period I don't want to wait that long. I feel terrible hearing her honk like that, the rescue lady tried to reassure me that it will go away, she had Chloe for a year and only heard that noise for a week. I want to believe her, she has rescued 22 poms all successfully and placed them all. But that sound is so heart wrenching.

My husband says that most of his clients just rub the throat area and it helps (as long as the condition is not too bad, so you should get it checked out...)

Re: My Poor Girl- kind of long
I'm sorry that I don't have any advice to give you, but I can say that I have VPI and I love it. I have a bulldog, and when he was not even a year old, he got very bad pnenomia and had to be hospitalized for 6 days. It was expensive and we did have to lay it out, but we got back almost every penny. It was well worth it. We even get back some $ when we get his heartworm meds.

Re: My Poor Girl- kind of long
I just want to thank everyone who FM and gave great advice. We tooK Chloe to out local vet, she was honking so much and having trouble walking, they gave her a sedative to calm her was going to keep her over night for observation. We called this morning and they told us that she had passed away during the night. She was so hyped up that she was struggling to get air and her heart stopped.
I am in total shock. I mean I was told by the lady I rescued her from that this was normal and that it would go away......I never expected this. I feel like I was taken for a ride by this lady. I am just glad that I took Chloe to a vet when I did and she passed on in comfort and not in total pain.
We still have Cassey and she is a doll. We are watching her double time now because I dont want her to get sick from losing her sister. But so far she is a bucket full of energy

OMG...I just saw this now
I'm sorry to hear about Chloe, but just know that you did the right thing and at least she wasn't in pain.
I would be so mad at the lady that told you it was normal. That's just not right.

oh my god. i am so sorry. the poor thing. i cant believe this. im in utter shock. my heart goes out to you and Chloe. this is so incredibly sad i may cry.
i dont mean to sound crude, but at least you only had her for a day, the longer you would have her the harder it would be im sure... especially for your children.
love Cassie and spoil her to death!!! im sure chloe will be looking over.
ok now my eyes are tearing im so so so sorry for your loss. cassie may griev alittle too im sure.
off topic but just wanted to let you know, toy breeds trachea can collapse if you use a collar rather than a harness, so id def use a harness on cassie.
im soooooo sorry again
what did the woman say?

Thanks. Yeah we got Cassie a harness yesterday, not that her chubbyness wants to walk =0).
The lady will be paying all the vet bills, we had a long talk and she agreed it was the right thing to do.

Re: My Poor Girl- kind of long--Sad Update
Just for the record the pet insurance companies want a record from your vet when they insure your pet. This condition would be considered pre-existing and would not be covered if its documented in your pets chart.................I learned this the hard way

OMG!!! I am in total shock sitting here!!! I am so sorry for your little girl, what a horrible thing to happen. It's good you have your other little baby and as Lolita said - Now there is an angel watching over the chubster. I am sure the woman you got her from was upset also, my mom has a chihuahua whose has that collapsing trachea thing and he's 13, he's done it all his life when he get's excited. I am so sorry for your loss
