When I told my primary that sometime this year we wanted to start TTC, she insisted that I go on them.

Put them next to the coffee maker, ceareal, whatever you have in the morning or someplace in the bathroom near something that you use everyday.
Ideally, you should be on pre-natls for a couple of months before TTC.
You should also cut back on caffeine

My doctor did not recommend prenatals. He just said to take folic acid for at least 3 mos. ahead of time (which is what I'm doing).

I've been supplementing my daily vitamin with extra folic acid.

Well DH and I started TTC this past month before I even knew how important folic acid is. I started but I am afraid it maybe too late. I will know next week when I take a HPT if I am pregnant. Now I am kind of nervous. I didnt realize how important they were to start before you even TTC.

i am taking them now. You should start taking them six monts before u start TTC. Its always good to be extra healthy. Less problems for when the baby does come along.

I did not. My doctor advised to just take a regular daily vitamin (plus I took extra folic acid too). I didn't even see the Dr. until 8 weeks and that's when I got the prenatal prescription.

I was taking Centrum and Folic Acid until I was about 8 or 9 weeks.
