what exactly is a gluicose test?

I see alot of posts about it and i dont know exactly what it is? i keep hearing people say the three house one? What does the tests consist of?What happnes if you fail the tets?

At around 26 weeks, you will take a glucosoe tolerance test. With my doc, he doesn't make me fast, I just have to drink this sugary orange drink 1 our before my appointment and when I arrive, they will draw blood and have it tested to see the amount of sugars your body is able to process.

If you happen to fail that, you go on and take a 3 hour test, which is the same thing, I believe, but they draw your blood every hour over 3 hours.

Just to let you know if you fail the 3 hr they will diagnose you with gestational diabetes. For most women this is pregnancy induced and may be controlled with diet. Soem have to go on insulin but less than 1% will develop regular diabetes

are you more likely to develop GD if one of your parents have type 1 diabetes?

Maybe, I may have read something about that. I looked into it because my friend was diagnosed with this. She is 6 mos. You can search on webmd?
