Hair Coloring

I decided to cover my highlights because they were killing my hair. I have naturally dark brown hair and I asked to match my natural hair with the color. It turned out to be really dark, almost black..

Maybe I've highlighted for so long that it just looks really dark and that's the real color of my hair, but it's too dark. I know it will lighten up in a few weeks with washing and oxidation but I feel almost goth! Chat Icon

The light still picks up some of the tones from the highlighting but on top its really dark.

Should I go back to the salon? I know they will take care of me and make me happy but what can they really do to make my hair lighter without bleaching it again..?

I told my colorist whom I love that I wanted lighter this time because last time was too dark and he said ok, so I was expecting it to be lighter.

So me and my dark brown looks too dark and I don't know if I should just let it fade and next time I go do something different.

Any words of advice?

Re: Hair Coloring

if you not happy go back- but the same exact thing happend to me

when I first went from blonde highlights back to all brown it was a bit shocking- I brought her a pic from my sweet 16- to see my natural color- I thought it was medium/dark brown- she dyed it almost black- but after a week it was fine- and I never have to get it redone- she swore the blonde would come thru

it just takes a bit to get used to -

Re: Hair Coloring

IMO i would just go back and have them look at your hair and the color and let them tell you what they can do...
and tell them your concerns

can't hurt

Re: Hair Coloring

This is the second time I've had it done and you are right within a week or two it didn't look so extreme.

Looking at my wedding picture where I only had a semi-perm rinse in, it is dark, but I see more black than brown now.

My hair cuticle is shot right now since I have baby fine hair and the bleaching just killed it. I think I have to just leave it alone and be nice to it.

What could they do to get it lighter besides bleaching?

Re: Hair Coloring

when did you dye you hair?
If it was today or yesterday and you haven't done anything to your hair yet...they have products that can take the color out

Re: Hair Coloring

I had it done on Thursday. After looking at it again and then comparing to an old pic of me..my hair really is that dark.

My colorist and I talk about this all the time. In order to make it lighter you have to strip the hair of color and then add back in a color of choice.

I think my hair will fall out if I do that! Chat Icon Chat Icon

it's really not that bad..it doesn't look bad, just a little shocking..

DH likes it..

Re: Hair Coloring

my hair is naturally dark brown
and i have never worn it this way

if you get bad roots and that is why you went to your natural color, then you may need to stick with the dark..

if you like having the lighter hair then go back but again you will get the roots again

since i personally never had dark brown hair, i dont think dying my hair that color would be an option - i am so used to seeing myself with blonde hair that the dark would be too drastic and would scare me!

how about doing the hilights sgain, adding low lights gradually, then eventually going back to all brown? i may do this before i ttc
