Anyone have this happen after an offer?

We made an offer on a house. We are currently prequalified for a mortgage and our realtor has a copy of our prequalification letter. Before our offer is accepted, the other realtor wants to meet with the mortgage company.

I don't even know what would they be meeting with them for? We are not locked into getting our mortgage from our company, and we would plan to do more shopping around if we get into contract.

Is this common? We put offers on other homes which were accepted (but we did not go to contract for other reasons) and they accepted the prequal letter with no problem.

When DH and I purchased our first house the seller's wanted us to get a prequalification from another bank. I think it could just be that they want to make sure that you can get the mortgage. If they accept your offer and in the 11th hr your unable to get the mortgage they have to start all over again. They are probably just being extra cautious.
