Working Moms...

Particularly if you are working full time - how many hours a day would you say you get to spend with your baby on work days?

I only get around 3 hrs/day with Jake and it makes me sad to know that the sitter spends more time with him than I do. Chat Icon

Re: Working Moms...

I spend about 2.5 hours in the morning and about 3.5 hours at night with her, so 5-6 total. It is so hard and sometimes I get really depressed, but I try to make the time I have with her quality time and dont let other 'chores' get in the way of playing with her.

Also I am away for her for 9 hours, but usually she is napping for about 3 of those hours, so I figure Im missing 6 hours but spending about 6 with her every day too. (makes me feel a little better)......plus the times she wakes up at night still Chat Icon

Re: Working Moms...

I'm grappling with this right now amidst my first week back at work. When I get home I have about 3 hours before she falls asleep. And in the morning I spend about an hour or two with her. I feel like I'm not spendng enough time with her, so I won't let DH do any of the twilight feedings so I can be with her more. THough it does make me feel better that everyday when we get her from daycare I can see on the chart that she sleeps 2/3 of the day, so I guess I'm not missing TOO much. ANd the rest of the time that she's awake, she's playing with other babies and other people, which I keep telling myself is really good for her development Chat Icon

Me too. It is a depressing realization. And some nights it's less b/c if he's sleeping, DH gives him dinner and puts him to bed before I get home.

Re: Working Moms...

It varies but about 5 hours total.

At first it really freaked me out and I was scared that the baby would be more attached to the girls at daycare.

Not the case at all. Connor enjoys his day at daycare and is doing so well developmentally. The interaction with the other kids is great.

And when we are home it is all about him.

I am very comfortable with being back at work now.

Same here...that's why "free time" aka I don't have to work nites/weekends are very very precious and I get mad when I have to share them or be away from herChat Icon

I don't get to see her in the AM--I leave for work at 6:10 (!) I can be home by 3 pm, so I have until about 8-9 with her. I really can't complain as a teacher.

Re: Working Moms...

Not enough on days I work in the office.

On days I work in the office, I spend 7-9pm (with cleaning bottles, cooking, cleaning up, preparing for the next day, etc). I try to do as much as possible after he goes to bed but not all can wait. He sometimes wakes up while I am getting ready but he usually is in our bed while I am running around to get ready and usually not more than a half hour at max. I do work from home 2 days a week so those days I have much more time with him!

Re: Working Moms...

No time in the AM because I need to be out the door by 6:15 to get to work in the city in time -- and she usually sleeps until 7:30-8am.

Probably around 4 hours at night. I get home around 4 but she's esleep usually from about 3pm-6pm -- then from about 6pm - 10pm when I have to try and go to sleep and DH takes over.

I get to feed her one bottle, give her a bath, play with her a little bit, and that is it. It breaks my heart that she doesn't get to see me all day, or DH on most days of the week.
