Has anyone gotten DH a sperm analysis?
My doc suggested it and told me where to drop it off, but Im wondering if this is covered by health insurance and if not how much it is going to cost us?
What kind of things other than fertility can a sperm test tell you?

I've seen these at Eckerd not sure if it will provide the info you need or you can call the insurance co.

yes, that was the first thing they did. They ckecked his sperm befor ethey even checked me out.
I was covered.

I have GHI, under the City of New York plan which I think covers a lot... how did you find out if you were covered? My doc said she didnt know.

For us, it was DH's insurance that had to cover it, not mine. He has a very basic Aetna plan and it was 80% covered.
I think it only cost $150, but don't quote me.

My Dhs insurance covered it, 100%
They can tell the quantity of the sperm and also the quality of the sperm. Its very important to have done, IMO.

My insurance did not cover it and I just got the bill. 175.00 for sperm washing, 375.00 for IUI.

My gyn sent DH to where he needed to have his SA. We just got back his results yesterday so I'm still waiting to see how much his insurance company covers.

if you have the book that explains your policy (what's covered, what's not), you might be able to find it in there.... but you should also be able to call your insurance to find out.

My health insurance covered it.
It is covered under the NY State Mandate for fertility treatments that it muct be offered unless your insurance is provided by a state, county town, or govt job, or union or religious organizations. They are the only ones exempt.

MY dh got it done. I got a bill for about 150 when they put it through my insurancea and because he's not on my insurance they didnt cover it,but his did.
Call the insurance comp that covers him, if they dont cover it, call the lab tell them that you are paying for it that it is not covered and ask them how much it would cost.

I just wanted to add something else about the SA.
It's just about the least invasive test you are going to have to deal with as far as infertility testing.
All Dh has to do is ejaculate in a cup. It take minutes and it's something they ENJOY doing Yeah maybe its a little embarassing for them the first time, but you know what, every other guy in the REs office has been there done that.
I would suggest not putting it off at all. Like I said it takes minutes to do and within days you will have his results. Aside from the SA, blood work was the only other test my DH went through.

LOLOLOL I KNOW my husband enjoys it so he shouldnt complain so much! I'll have to remember to say that next time I look at the empty jar.
