Sciatic Nerve Problems

Do you have any problems? I am in SEVERE pain today (on top of a cold, a sinus infection and morning sickness ) Anyway, this just started today and wondering what I can do to help with this pain.

I had major issues with this during my preg. (on and off)

Everyone suggested prenatal massage...but I never ended up doing that, but Im sure it works wonders!

I always used a little bengay on my lower back- However I never got the ok from my DR. Check with yours... if he/she says ok- go for it.... It really helped me!

I had problems with that earlier on in the pregnancy. Heating pad helped. Feel better

Ok, I am a chronic sciatic nerve sufferer, however, pregnancy poses a huge problem for me because normally I take anti-infalmatories. I found that 10 minutes of ice, then 10 minutes of heat, alternating for about an hour is what works best. And I would have JT massage my back every night. That combo is what worked best. I know how painful it is But try that. The reason I got for the heat and the ice is that the ice soothes the swollen nerve, and the heat relaxes the spasming muscle around the nerve. HTH!!!!

I dont have any advice either. I was having it for a while but then she moved and the pain went away. I did take Tylenol and used a heating pad. Feel better

I had that, it was awful Definitely sleep with a pillow between your knees. The other thing I found was trying to get the baby to move off of it helped. I would lay to the opposite side of the leg that was in the most pain and stay like that until she moved. It worked often.

I used a hot/cold compress on my back - and my only remedy was also really to take it easy.
I tried to lie down, keep my legs elevated and relax - relaxing my back and doing nothing really helped the pain get better.

I only seem to have it at work, when I'm on my feet all day and walking around. When I'm home, it doesn't bother me at all. So of course, there's nothing I can do about it when it bothers me!

I had terrible pain a few months ago. I used BenGay and did stretching. I was afraid of the heating pad, as I am neurotic about "electromagnetic fields".

The stretch that helped the most was the following: get on the floor on your hands and knees. Arch your back up (like a cat) as far as you can and hold it for 10-15 seconds. Then slowly curve your back in the other direction (getting your belly as close to the floor as you can) and hold that for 10-15 seconds. Repeast 20-25 times.
