Re: I knew it!!! I FAILED my 1hr glucose test

OK.
well you were expecting that.
and a lot of people fail the 1 hour.

and if you fail your 3 hour- really it isn't THAT big of a deal- more an inconvenience- and as my mother says- just the 1st of a bazillion annoying things you'll do for the kid!

Sassy thank you for that 2k diet- I started it yesterday but felt hungry all day long- I guess I see I spoiled myself with pasta 24-7.

my sugar level was 160 and they told me the cut off is 140. blah!

Re: I knew it!!! I FAILED my 1hr glucose test

160 is high....you may have GD.
For the test here are some hints:
Bring your husband....no need for you to sit there alone for 3 hours, plus many women feel very dizzy after not eating for so long so you may need help driving home.

Bring a snack to eat the minute the blood is taken.

Bring a book or a few magazines.

Do NOT diet and feel hungry. That is not going to change your numbers or help the baby. If you have GD you need to know about it especially since it can cause complications if undetected. There are GD diets that can help with your sugar problems that will not leave you hungry all day long. This is NOT because of pasta! GD is a hormonal issue. Your diet did NOT cause this.

I'm sorry you felt hungry
i don't feel hungry at all on this diet- if anything I have a hard time fitting all the meals in.
One tip- re: the carbs- eat VERY high in fiber- this will help fill you (and is better health wise in general)

Hi, my doctor said 160 isnt that high and feels because I ate pasta for dinner - a large serving AND toast in the am that affected my score. I eat pasta everyday and 0 meat, he said that is a HUGE problem b/c the pasta turns to starch to sugar. I have never eaten like this before pg, I guess thats my craving. I would eat pasta for lunch and dinner, he said diet does play a role , oh well.

yes, DH is coming with me, he took off work to be with me.

They told me no eating or drinking water during the test, do you mean to bring food for after the last blood is drawn and Im done? if so yes I will bring something, Im sure I will be hungry.

No no Im not dieting, I worded that wrong. I have a meal plan for 2 thousand calories a day and it is very different than how I am used to eating. This has limited carbs and I guess I went through carb withdrawl yesterday since thats all I eat. It is a very healthy way of eating, Im just not used to it. Im not trying to alter the test at all, of course I would want to know, I just feel it is better late than never to start eating healthier or different, when in fact I am not eating enough protein and veggies, which I see now I was not. I have to say I woke up today with lots of energy not like other days, I would be sluggish.
If I fail no biggie, it just forces me to have a healthier lifestyle and if I can lose weight while being pg, and this new style of eating will help me with breastfeeding too and help me lose the weight post pg, Im all in. It cant hurt me, its a win win situation really, just a wake up call.
I'd like to pass b/c diabetes runs in my family really bad and pre pg my levels every year for over 10 years have been steady at 99. every year I have it checked due to my family history.
thanks for responding, Chat Icon

I eat every two hours during the day and I eat whole grains

For example:

for breakfast I eat a slice of sprouted whole wheat bread (it's very high in fiber)_ the brand is ezekials and it's frozen (it's in the organic section)- i eat this w/ natural pb (no added sugar).

two hours later I eat 1/2 cup kashi good friend's cereal (again, high in fiber) with skim milk.

two hours after that I eat lunch (today it's a skinless chicken thigh w/ veggies and whole wheat cous cous and an apple).

two hours after that I eat a skim string cheese and a brown rice cake.

then I usually have a lull b/c I have to commute home- I might eat some almonds or cashews on the way home on the train.

For dinner it's again a meat, whole grain & veggie... but I NEVER eat white carbs (or try not to)

ok this makes more sense to me now regarding the fiber, see yesterday at work it was so busy I couldnt eat at the 2 hour mark and wondered if that was ok. I have to go food shopping, lol. high fiber foods do not exist in my houseChat Icon frozen veggies maybe, lol. thanks you really are a big help!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I knew it!!! I FAILED my 1hr glucose test

At the stop & shop by my house they have a whole separate organic section which includes frozen- this has been my life saver. Even the Amy's organic frozen pizzas are made w. whole grain dough...

I had to do a HUGE $200 shop to prepare to eat this way. I also bring raw veggies for lunch (snow peas, cukes, celery & carrots)

Re: I knew it!!! I FAILED my 1hr glucose test

Good Luck on your 3 hour!! 160 isn't too high so hopefully you are in luck. I had GD and my 1 hour was in the 170's. I wouldn't worry about your diet until you know you have it. Starting a diet plan before taking the 3 hour test could throw off the 3 hour results slightly and you want to know for sure if you have it.

If you do have it - work with a nutritionalist you love. I made that mistake. I hated my person and was constantly starving. My High risk OB actually would order me to spike since once on the diet my numbers were so slow and he saw the stress it was causing me. The diet actually wasn't too bad as far as what you can eat - for me it was the super strict schedule of when you must eat your meals and take you blood with my lifestyle that was very difficult. Like I couldn't leave a business meeting I was leading to say - time for me to eat - it just didn't work well.

Good Luck to you and try not to think about it until you get the 3 hour results! I know no one outside of the boards who had GD but I know tons of people who failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour.

oh good there is a stop and shop right near me, after work I am going. Raw veggies are ok - no limit right if not on that carb list. wow I have NOT been eating healthy and I thought I was!!!!

Re: I knew it!!! I FAILED my 1hr glucose test

I "thought" but not sure...that they test your glucose when they first take your urine (prior) to giving you the sugar drink and then after the hr they test the urine again to see how much glucose was "digested" in the system. I would think if lets say you ate the pasta prior to taking the test that it would show up in the first urine so that it already showed that it would be high. I really dont know its just my thought.
I felt naseaus and dizzy after mine!
