Normal or Needs Nanny 911

OK, so yesterday I had company over and there were a couple of toddlers running around my house. I guess I haven't been in around many two and three year olds in a while so I was completely thrown for a loop while they were here.

Do two and three year olds do the following:

Shake bassinet with baby in it?

Swing baby's swing and try to pull the fish off?

Jump up and down on treadmills?

Throw five pound weights across the room?

Climb up stairs and jump down?

They're dad said right now, with my little one is so easy b/c I have nothing to worry about. He says wait until the kids start putting batteries, coins, marbles and crayons in their mouths.

Is this normal behavior for toddlers or do these kids need Joe Frost from Super Nanny? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

As a mom of a 4.5 year old (and a 13 month old)...just wait...the best is yet to come. The toddler years are fun!

I do NOT think that is normal. Think the parents need to step in here

Sounds like the parents aren't doing the best to control and set limits for those kids. Yes, toddlers can be wild, but there is a difference between distructive and normal toddlers!

Yes they do all of the above if they are being raised that it's ok to do that. It would NOT be ok for my kids to do that. They woudl be sitting on the stair in time out if I was at your house. As for shaking the bassinet & throwing weights, they would get one warning from me before they would lose TV privledges for the week. (I wouldn't have to do that for my 3 year old, if she gets yelled at, she sobs"

My daughter is 3, and she would NEVER do any of the above. She wouldn't even think of doing it, because she knows she'd land in corner time. IMO those kids need Supernanny!

Me too. If I behaved like that as a kid I would have gotten a swat on the butt and been punished. I think people let their kids get away with too much now.

Were they boys? Boys are more destructive and rambunctious (sp?) than girls. My dd would have NEVER done half the things my son does.

Re: Normal or Needs Nanny 911

If given the chance too- then yes- a 2 and 3 yr. old would def do these things... (however the parents should NOT be giving them the chance too- and should be teaching that it is not proper behavior

Re: Normal or Needs Nanny 911

Like others said, normal if they're not being reprimanded. I think it's an issue with the parenting in this case.
