Re: Hot Dogs??

I didn't give Kiera a hot dog until she was about 18 months. She loves them but I wanted to wait because 1) they can be difficult to chew and can be a choking hazard and 2) there really isn't a lot of nutrional value in a hot dog. So I wanted to hold off on giving her one. I wanted to really establish other healthy things first.

Personally I think 10 months is a little too young and I would say wait until at least a year.

Re: Hot Dogs??

depends on how they do with other food of that texture. If they can eat small pieces of chicken and ground beef, try them....take the skin off and cut the pieces really small.

Maybe boil them? When we give her hot dogs I plan on using Hebrew National hot dogs because they are all beef

I give them to her since about 10 months. I buy organic, nitrate free all beef hot dogs and I cut them up very small, smaller than most foods and so far so good. It's the only way I seem to be able to get her to eat any red meat product which the doctor wants her to have.

I take the skin off when I do give it to her, which isn't often.

Re: Hot Dogs??

We give Alex soy hot dogs... much better nutrionally, and they taste just like the real thing. We cut it into little pieces and she loves it

The safety expert that came to our Mommy and Me class said you should never cut hot dogs in the shape of the rounds. You should cut them in spears and remove the skin.

This is the safest way to do it. A baby's esophagus is just about the same diameter as a hot dog (or a grape).
