Can you have dental work done? and when, if so.
I have a serious toothache and it's killing me. Can i have the dentist do a cleaning? x-rays? antibiotics? I have not met with my ob/gyn yet so I am clueless! Thanks for all of the help!

Ask your OB first. They will tell you how to handle it.
I got a horrible toothache in my 7th month and my Dr said - of course! Go to the dentist. But then the dentist is supposed to fax over a list of things he wants to do and your OB has to approve them all.
At least that's the way it was with my Dr. I ended up never going to the dentist because the toothache went away after a week or so and now it only bothers me when I eat or drink something really hot or cold. So I'm just going to wait until after the baby arrives to get any work done.

I was in the middle of a lot of dental work (i.e., implants and root canals, etc.) when I found out I was PG. Ob/gyn said to have all the work completed in my second trimester. No x-rays. And no epinephrine in the novovaine. The epi crosses the placenta to the baby. All it does it prolong the effects of the novocaine, so its not essentially necessary. I had a wisdom tooth pulled too when I was 5 months along.
You should be certain to at least have a teeth cleaning during pregnancy. Dental work is fine too, just see what the doc says first.
