how do you feel about leaving the country for vacation?

My DH is very reluctant to leave the country while I'm pregnant. He wants to just go to my timeshare in Florida for a babymoon, and although I know that will be fine, I want to do something more/better than just that. I would like to got to the Carribean, either Mexico or DR. Would/do you feel confortable leaving the country pregnant? How can I convince my DH that it's ok?

I went away when I was pregnant and everything was fine. Unless you're going to some remote place in Africa or somewhere dangerous, you'll be fine.

I wouldn't go to Mexico. I would go to PR or DR though.

I would go somewhere like the Bahamas, Caribbean, British Virgin Islands, or Western Europe.

I would go somewhere where there are OB's on the island, or the country. The good thing about the BVI or Bahamas is that they are not too far from Florida and you could be flown there if something should happen, God forbid.

I would call the hotels in the areas you want to visit and ask them for a list of local OB's and hospitals, just in case. This should set his mind at ease. Good Luck.

ETA: We went to Hawaii on our babymoon and I had my SIL email me a list of OB's and hospitals on the island before we went. I am crazy about this stuff, but it set my mind at ease.

We will be leaving for the Bahamas in a few weeks, and I will be just around 18 wks PG...

Initially DH was a bit concerned about flying outside of the U.S. as well, but my doctor reassured us that the 2nd trimester is the best time to fly, and since my pregnancy has been going really well so far, there wasn't too much to worry about.. And the Bahamas is a short flight, and close to Florida, in the event we needed to get back to the U.S. in an emergency -

The thoughts do cross my mind about being away and "what if" I have a problem, but we really wanted to take this last little getaway before the baby arrives in the fall

I would go some place tropical, like you said. I wouldn't go to Mexico and that is just because fo the situation with the water. I just got back from being away and it was absolutely fine.

I went to Cancun for a week when I was 23 weeks...my doc said it was totally fine and it was! We had an amazing time...the hotel had it's own water purifying system as MANY others do, it wasn't an issue...

I highly recommend!

Just make sure whatever you decide to get trip insurance. My SIL who is 14wks pregnant was supposed to join two girlfriends in Paris last week. She ended up developing a complication and had to cancel but got all her money back from the insurance.

We went to Peter Island in the BVI during our second trimester...I forgot how far along I was....I'm so happy we went.

I was in spain at 2o weeks and in Italy at 27....just made sure that i knew where an ob/gyn was located in case of any difficulties
