Should I take the day off from work on my retrieval?

My egg retrieval is coming up soon. Its either Wed or Thurs.

How do you feel afterwards? Should I return to work or take the day off?

Re: Should I take the day off from work on my retrieval?

YES!!! You have to. You are having anesthesia, you cant really function well afterwards..and you are suppossed to take it very easy the rest of the day. I know I slept most of the day away from the anesthesia.

Everyones different too. I was uncomfortable even getting out of bed till the 4th day after retrieval. It depends on how many eggs too...the more you have , unfortunatly the more uncomfortable you will be afterwards.

I was very uncomfortable after the retrieval and in a lot of pain, although tylenol helped a little. Even the next day I couldnt walk well so I had to stay home that day as well.

Some people have minimal pain or discomfort though. I know Kara was one who felt great afterwards, so again, everyones different.

ETA- you cannot shower either or take a bath the day of the retrieval so unless your a natural beauty it for me was not something I wanted my job to see...LOL

Oh wow...alright I'm definetely taking off.

I saw Dr. Chu this morning. I missed her. I hope she does my retrieval but I don't thinks so. There all good it doesn't matter who does it what matters is the end result.

Thank you!

Me too.

I took off for both the retrieval and the transfer.

Even if they aren't physically painful for you, they are both still emotionally trying.

Wishing you lots of baby dust!!!

I felt OK, not great but OK but I was glad I was off. Dh should take off also, because you are having anesthesia and should not be alone for 24 hours.

YOu will have to sign something that says someone must accompany you for 24 hours after ER.

I felt fine because well I only had 3 eggs - but definitely needed the day off!! You will be woozy from the anasthesia. DH should be with you.

I work from home so for me, going to work was kind of a no-brainer, lol. But I hope you have lots of eggs to retrieve and need an extra day or two -- good luck!

Re: Should I take the day off from work on my retrieval?

Thanks Chat Icon

My retrieval date changed to Friday I have the weekend to relax & my transfer is Monday.

I'm so excited. I hope it works first time around. I don't know what I'm going to do on the waiting period afterwards. Ha-ha any suggestions?

I do have tickets to a rock concert in November family is telling me not to go. I think they want me in bed the whole time after transfer. They need to relax. A concert is not going to hurt me. It's a punk rock concert I have common sense if it gets too crazy I'm out. I'm going I need some fun!

Re: Should I take the day off from work on my retrieval?

I went to NOLA the day after my first IVF. Dr. said it was OK to resume any normal activity, including travel. But I learned my lesson - better safe than sorry. I wouldn't stay in bed, I would go to the concert and have fun, just don't over do it.
