I am a size 14 and I better not gain 40 pounds...I think since we are "curvy" to begin with, we should only gain about 20-25 pounds...your doctor will talk to you about this...don't worry, as long as your baby is healthy, you can lose the weight after the baby is born

Every doctor is different with their comfort zone regarding weight. Some times, you can't help the weight you gain because it may be water. Try not to worry about how much you weigh and concentrate on having a healthy pregnancy.

Re: plus size preggo's- re: weight gain

I was a size 16 pre-pregnancy. I gained 24 lbs so far in 23 weeks. A lot of plus sized preggos only gain around 20-25 lbs, but that's not always the case. Try not to focus too much on the amount of weight. I am eating everything I am supposed to and seeing a nutritionist and I still gained this much so far. I am also nervous about how I am going to loose the weight post pregnancy, but at this point, I just want my baby and myself to be healthy.

This is not always the case. Although most Dr.s would prefer a larger person to gain 20-25 lbs, they also consider what you are eating and your blood pressure and glucose level, etc. It is not simply the number on the scale. So, if you gain more than that 25 lbs, don't be startled or worried. As you said, when the baby is born, you can loose the weight.

I was plus size before getting PG with twins. Now, at 34 qweeks, I have actually reached my pre-PG weight, (severe morning sickness). I'm really shocked that I didn't gain more, but my MD said this happens alot with larger Mommies and as long as the babies are growing, there is nothing to worry about.

I was a 14 pre-pregancy. At 22 weeks i've gained 9 pounds so far but I've been VERY careful with what I've been eating. I indulge here or there- but I eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Re: plus size preggo's- re: weight gain

I was a 14/16 pre pg, I gained 74lbs!! My dr did not lecture me on this, I asked him b/c I was concerned and he said that as long as the baby and I were both healthy then not to worry I would lose the weight after the baby. Now 3 months after I'm still much heavier than I want to be, but I know I will lose it. I joined WW and it's coming off slowly. Don't stress about it, enjoy being pg. Also I know I would have gained a good 40-50lbs regardless, but I believe I gained so much b/c for the last 10 weeks I was on strict bedrest, much of it in the hospital, I wasn't moving around and eating whatever I wanted.
