Updated on last page!!!!!Need your thoughts and payers for tomorrow morning!!
Hi! I am having an amnio at 9:15Am tomorrow and am praying with every bit of strength athat I have that everything will be ok. I am using Great Neck Ob-Gyn and Dr. Nimaroff is doing the procedure. I have heard that it isn't as bad as I think. DH will be with me but I just want it to be over with and know that the rersults are ok. Anyone have one or can give me some calming words? Thanks, appreciated!!

Everything will be okay!! I go to the same OBGYN office and although I have yet to met Dr. Nimaroff - all the doctors in that practice are great and im sure your baby is just fine.

I know what you are going through cuz I am going through the same thing myself right now. I had to have an Amnio done because of the results of my AFP blood tests. Which showed high levels of the baby having a possible birth defect such as down syndrome. She said it was a 1:241 chance. They that they could do an amnio test but that it would have to be our decision so DH and I opted to do it.
It's not a painful procedure, just a little uncomfortable when they put the needle in. Everyone is different so maybe you won't even feel the needle going in. But they do an ultrasound first to see where the baby is so they make sure not to prick the baby. Then once they see that the baby is not in the way they will insert this needle in your belly. It's a quick procedure. The doctor had me count to ten and it was all over.
The results take from like 10-15 days, but there is something called the F.I.S.H., test where you can have preliminary results within 48 hours. I had my amnio done last wednesday and just got my preliminary results yesterday because of the holidays and the lab was closed throughout the weekend. So far, it shows that the results are normal, now I have to wait for the final resuts next week. What i've heard is that the preliminary results are usually a good indicator.
The hardest part is waiting and all you can do is keep yourself busy and pray pray pray. i'm still praying that my final results back up the good preliminary ones.

Thanks ladies, greatly appreciated!! So far everything seems ok. The sonogram looked good so I am 25% less nervous than I was. So now I am going to go out and buy a couple of maternity clothes and continue to pray. I appreciate all of the love and support as always.

I had one done..2 days before my son was born...
The risks drops alot in your 3rd trimester...BUT there is also limited space in there...
I was a nervous wreck...and I didnt have much time to think about anything... I went in for a normal check up...and then I was laying on the table...
First off... It DOSENT hurt! And Im the biggest baby EVER!!! Im scared of everything, and cry over a paper cut!
I felt a little pinch, and then pressure like cramps...
Just some advice.. Keep your eyes closed...
I walked into the room...I watched the sono the did first then I closed my eyes and even put on sunglasses so I couldnt feel there shadows...
I never even saw the needle... DH said that me keeping my eyes closed was the best thing I couldve done...
RELAX as best as you can.... the quicker they can retrieve the fluid the quicker you get to go home and rest!
I can talk you through everything step by step if you wanna know!
Youll be fine!

Thanks so much! It was over at 9:30this morning. It was perfectly fine. I kept my eves closed the whole time, didn't see the needle at all. I just felt some pressure. The dr. made a joke but I held the laughter in because I didn't want to move.

Did you ask about getting the 48 hour result?
I kept my eyes closed too and the doctor told me to count to ten when she put the needle in. So I closed my eyes and counted and then it was over.
