Looking at my medical coverage gave me new questions...

1) An IUI would be considered artificial insemination, right?

2) How much does an IVF typically cost?

TIA!

Holy Crapola!!!

My insurance won't cover anything for either!!! Only covers correcting infertility problems like regulating hormones.

Anyone know how much an IUI costs?

It's an absolute sin when insurance doesn't cover infertility treatment. Do you live in NY ? Some states have better mandates than others. However, if you work for a company that's 'national' they don't have to abide by the state mandates.

The actual IUI is not that expensive...I think it varies between 200-400 but, what adds up in cost are the u/s that you really need to do , in order to time the IUIs correctly. I would see if your insurance covers, at least the u/s...since that may be considered "diagnostic".

WWW.FERTILITYLIFELINES.COM is Brooke Sheild's site to help women with infertility. They will actually work wtih your insurance company to help you figure out what they cover and don't. SOme of your meds might get covered, some appts...and that all helps.

Re: Looking at my medical coverage gave me new questions...

Nicole it is such a circus. My previous clinic made me pay $13K up front. The clinic I go to now says I will have to pay max. $2K and that my insurance covers everything.

I would go back to your clinic and insist that they try to go through your insurance anyway. And call your insurance youself. Funny when I called 2 weeks ago they insisted that I am NOT covered. But my clinic still INSISTS that I am. Until the shoe drops, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck!!

I'm gonna post this on the other coverage thread too cause it pertains to both.

I work for a "national", so state mandates don't count. It wasn't my clinic that toldme it isn't covered--I looked it up on my own. My company has benefits renewals every July were I can change plans if I want, or I'm locked in to mine another year.

I have HIP now and it only covers treating the causes of infertility 100%, not IVFs or any inseminations.

I saw Aetna on there that covers 100% after copay with a lifetime max of $25,000 for anything. I was thinking of switching. I may never need it, but then again I might and I don't wanna be stuck waiting out the time to change my insurance.

Interestingly enough, my husband has Oxford, which I'm under, and it sounds like they have good coverage. How much towards these things do you get from your spouses insurance?
